This restaurant is on the beach with good views. It is open air and open plan and has fans to try to keep you cool. It has plenty of Thai diners and so not a tourist trap. However... Ordered shared plate of shrimp fried rice and crab fried rice turned up. That was quickly replaced with very tasteless shrimp fried rice which we had to send back to add flavour. It came back a little burned but now containing crab which I am allergic to. Asked to have it removed from bill as could no longer trust them to serve the dish we had ordered. That spoiled the rest of meal which was so so at best. Tom yum Goong - good flavour and decent amount of large shrimps although many had not been gutted properly. Tod Mun Goong - deep fried shrimp cakes. Tasted OK but possibly bought from a supermarket. Bill came and we were over charged 35 Baht for an orange soda. We were also given a large bucket of ice when we only needed a glass of ice. I can't tell if this was poor food from a poor chef who served everyone the same or a chef and staff who assumed a tourist, with a Thai wife, wouldn't care. Good location, poor food, poor "chef". Watch your bill. OK for a drink to be by the sea, but we got away with sending food back and having it removed from bill as we both speak Thai but a tourist wouldn't be so lucky...

This restaurant, "Krua Baan Kru", is located alongside the beach, but it has a raised concrete floor, so you are not sitting in the sand.
When I arrived, there were groups of Thai families sitting at tables with gray colored table cloths. At first glance, the place looked somewhat classy compared to nearby restaurants.
However, the hostess placed me at a regular table without a tablecloth.
The prices on the menu seem a bit high and the service is only average.
I ordered a coconut smoothie that was very good.
For my meal, I ordered squid stir fried in basil and chilli on rice. The flavors of the spices were nice. I ordered this dish at normal Thai person spiciness. Still, the squid was really chewy and difficult to eat. I felt like maybe they gave me a "less than fresh" piece.
To be honest, all of these beach-side restaurants have high prices and feel a bit like tourist traps. This restaurant does not have a friendly or warm service level that might help compensate for lackluster food.
Maybe I can return with friends and we can try out a variety of dishes here. I would like to give another chance to...
