I had been planning to visit Air Space for a really long time, but whenever I trekked over to the Khao Takiab area, I seemed to spend the whole day at the beach.
This time on a Sunday, I dropped by Air Space for a late lunch and a view of this most "Instagram-able" Café/Restaurant.
It is exactly as other reviewers have noted; the decor and atmosphere is unique. The architecture and layout is open and refreshing. In spite of all the glass windows, they really know how to blast the air conditioning here. I love it, but other folks might freeze to death.
There are two sections you can choose from; the restaurant section and the coffee shop/café section. I didn't realize this fact and I wandered into the restaurant area while a tour busload of remarkably well-heeled and polite Chinese tourists were being served. This group was not a problem because the restaurant area is quite large and I found a good table by the window. The Chinese tour group were chatting amongst themselves in a relatively normal volume and even though they were taking full advantage of the Instagram-able moments, they were really polite and didn't get in the way.
The live music was nice and the waiter initially brought me a tattered paper menu on a clipboard and then he brought me the infamous iPad menu. I noticed that the "All Day Breakfast" was not listed on the paper menu, but it was listed on the iPad. The waiter explained that the Breakfast entrées are usually served at the coffee shop section of the establishment. (Until this point, I didn't realize there were two sections.) The iPad menu is a bit difficult to navigate without the waiter's assistance.
No worries, I ordered the big breakfast for 280 Baht and it was OK. As other reviewers have mentioned, the prices are slightly higher for what you get here, and there are other restaurants in Hua Hin that have better food at the same or cheaper prices, but they don't have the Instagram-able architecture and decor. The two egg, two sausage, two bacon with pan fried potatoes and a small salad was 3.5 to 4 stars.
I ordered a Cafe Americano with some extra milk on the side and they also brought me a cup of hot water to top up my coffee... although I think they misunderstood my request for some "Warm Milk" on the side. This coffee was 100 Baht.
They have Air Space branded drinking water for 35 Baht.
In my experience here, the waiter service was really good. They were friendly, knowledgeable of the menu dishes and very professional in their attitude and demeanor. Good job!
I slowly ate my meal, sipped my coffee and enjoyed the live music. I chilled out and relaxed. The place wasn't crowded and the waiters were attentive but not pushy, so I took a little break and read a short chapter from a book that I brought.
I paid my bill in the restaurant side and then I walked around snapping some photos. There are a lot of details here.
I walked over to the coffee shop side and I noticed that they had a display case of cakes. I ordered the Carrot Cheese Cake and relaxed at a sofa table. The place was almost empty and I note that there are some convenient power outlets, so bringing a laptop or tablet for a little online work would not be a problem as long you order drinks and food.
The Carrot Cake was 165 Baht plus 10% service charge and 7% VAT.
My waiter had followed me from the restaurant side and when I paid the bill for the cake, he gave me a complimentary Air Space baseball hat!
In conclusion, Air Space is a unique establishment in Hua Hin that is worth visiting. The combination of the atmosphere, the service and the food came together for me...
Read moreAfter reading the reviews on Google and seen the ad on Facebook , we went to Air Space with a group of friends for a celebratory dinner on Sunday evening having booked a table two days before. My wife then phoned to enquire about the corkage charge but it was not answered (it’s 400 baht per bottle by the way). Our arrival at 7 PM coincided with the landing of a double decker coach load of Chinese tourists so it was hard to get the waiting staff’s attention. Eventually we were shown to our table which proved unsatisfactory as it was in the corner of the cafe section with three of us having to sit on a low sofa. We complained and were moved to another table, which was just vacated by another large group of Chinese tourists. Thereafter, the whole evening was a stressful experience of having to attract the waiters’ attention, reminding and chasing them of our food and drinks order such that I couldn’t enjoy conversing with my friends.
The food, when it arrived, was attractively presented and well executed. We ordered a mix of Thai and Western dishes and can recommend the Thai style deep fried sea bass, the Thai green curry with Australian beef, the ribeye steak, and the pork knuckle. My pan fried sea bass with chilli flake spaghetti was tasty but the skin could have been crispier and the side vegetables were practically raw. My son had the chocolate lava cake and evidently enjoyed it as he polished it off leaving me to clear up the ice cream.
The final bill was expensive for Hua Hin standards and came inclusive of 7% VAT and 10% service charge (the latter undeserved). Overall, we enjoyed the food and each other’s company without any helping hand from the restaurant staff who were evidently stressed and rushed off their feet mass catering to coach load after coach load of tourists.
Air Space must decide whether it wants to be a restaurant serving good international food with a cool hangout vibe as it advertises on social media, or pursue an undoubtedly lucrative business of mass catering to tourists; the two are incompatible. We won’t be back until it has made...
Read moreI hope this review reaches the right people. We went here for coffee in late March 2024. First the positive- The atmosphere is indeed very well done. Obviously lots of money and attention went into creating this space. The quality of the coffee and matcha latte are great. The match latte was phenomenal. For the price it better have been. That being said, we just won't go back. Why? The prices are just too high for the area. Sure, you'll get the fresh tourist to wander in because of the space, but the expats and for sure the locals will avoid this for much more reasonably priced places. And there is this - the added VAT (7%) and service charge (10%) on already high prices. Whoever came up with the idea to add especially the service charge needs to immediately change this policy if they hope for the place to survive. We were the only ones in there. The service was horrible. They hire kids from Myanmar that don't smile and aren't attentive, and then mandate a 10% service fee? We asked for both drinks to be 25% sweet, "wan nit noi" , only to have one at 0% and one at 100%. You leave the place feeling off. Not wanting to return. Sure, the atmosphere is very well done, but after the first visit, why go back? We didn't even bother with ordering food because we knew about lower nearby prices. In an area surrounded by European tourists that don't normally tip, who in their right mind would mandate a service charge? There are VERY few Americans in this area, so no one visiting and definitely no one living here likes the added charges. MAYBE if the service was super attentive and friendly it would be OK, but not with these kids who should be taught about the service mindset immediately. If the owner hopes for this to continue, they need to train the employees, pay them fairly, and get rid of the added charges. People won't return. I bet 99% of customers don't return. There is too much competition and you simply can't charge that...
