We walked in at 6:15pm and no customers were present besides us. We went to sit at a 4 person table to give ourselves a little more room as the server offered us any table. (We are very observant guests and would never take a 4 person table as a couple if the restaurant was busy.) As we were about to sit, the chef (possibly owner??) said, “smaller table, smaller table!” to the server so we were ushered to a tiny two person table. Not very comfortable or nice especially since the restaurant was dead for another twenty minutes until another pair came.
No water was offered. When I asked the server she said you have to pay for bottled water. Crazy.... I’m spending $9USD per pizza in Thailand and I have to buy water??!!! Madness.
We bought two pizzas. The vegetarian pizza had lettuce on it which I think is strange as I have never seen fresh lettuce on a pizza before. The second pizza was burnt at the bottom. The chef halfway through our meal asked us from within the kitchen if our meals were good and that was real awkward for us to reply. How can we possibly give you honest feedback when you have another two customers sitting near us?
TLDR: pizzas are average, sucks they burnt one of them. Chef put us at a small table when there were no other customers. No free water with...
Read moreBeen living on Koh Phangan for a little bit now. Ordered from Basilica via the Koh Phangan delivery app several times and was always impressed by the pizzas each time we ordered.
Finally made the short drive down here last night and I am so glad we did. We got a focaccia (gorgonzola and olives) and 2 pizzas to share (White Eden pizza and a mushroom pizza). These are some of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. The dough is beautiful. Cooked absolutely perfectly. Nice crispy base and crust with a fluffy inner centre. Plenty of fresh toppings and complimentary chilli oil, balsamic vinegar, herbs and hot sauce if you need it.
The guy that served us was new and on his second day. Didn't catch his name but he was super helpful and attentive without being overbearing.
Can't recommend Basilica enough if you are looking for authentic and very affordable pizzas made with love...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place :-( but unfortunately the pizzas are disappointing. I'm (South)Italian, so I know what I'm talking about. My three stars are just for the effort of reproducing a neapolitan pizza here in Thailand. I must also say though, that there are other pizzerie on the island that do a much better job. The ingredients of the topping had ZERO flavour (mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, arugula, all not detectable!) and the crust, although light and easily digestible, was also tasteless. No fermented flavour, no smokey flavour from the oven (I doubt that they use a wood fired oven). I paid 300 baht for a tasteless pizza and for eating on a noisy busy road. Uncomfortable, disappointing. I...
