The "Restaurant & Bar at the Beach" is part of the Santhiya Resort on Koh Pha Ngan. While there are more economical options available in the nearby village, we went to the "By the Sea" for the "Wok Menu", which is a special offer on Tuesday evening and appeared to be good value for the money.
And it was, definitely.
It's a three course menu, with an appetizer consisting of two spring rolls an a bit of salad, a main course, and selection of fruits as desert. You can sit there on ordinary chairs and tables, or "side to side" of each other on "long chairs" with your legs up and a phantastic view over the bay to the little village at the far end of beach.
Hint: while a bit heavy you can pull the table closer so that you can eat without leaning forward all the time, with an otherwise unsupported back. If you move the table on your own, you need to "coordinate" the force on each side of it well, as the legs are relatively long compared to their distance, so pushing too sudden or too hard might give the table a tendency to topple over.
Or just call a waiter for help.
Back to the main course. This is a "life cooking" event, so you select the ingredients, put them on a plate which you then hand over to the cook. It's brought to your table by the waiter when ready. If we understood the Chef correctly, we could have gone a second time to get a "refill" but we didn't use the option.
So let me end with a word to my fellow tourists: Please PLEASE do NOT put huge stacks of food on your table and then turn back half of it, uneaten. It is hurtful enough to see this happen all the time at the breakfast buffet. If you have free refills, only pack so much food on your plate as can surely eat. Don't send the wrong message of thoughtless wastefulness in a country with nice and friendly people, like the ones living and working here for our wellbeing in Thailand.

Read moreYou can lay in beds to eat your dinner overlooking the sea which feels very luxurious. The food was the best Thai food I've had so far on our 3 week trip! We had massuman curry, veg spring rolls & rice and a massuman pizza. The watermelon shake is fresh and the Virgin colada was also great. The Thai tea wasn't the best I've had in Thailand. Total for all of that to as around £33. Similar to English prices so not the cheapest in Thailand. The QR code ordering can be temperamental so the service lost one star for this. However the service staff are very welcoming and brought us over mosquito repellent when they could see us struggling! The food came quickly too. I really like how they have built around the trees here rather than cut them down!...
