Kawin's Kitchen — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

The food tasted good so that’s a plus. But nothing special. The service was also good, friendly. Nice and pleasant employees.

However some simple things to make it a 5/5. And to offer some feedback to help.

Prices are too high, similar restaurants and similar quality offer a lower price and bigger portion. The location ain’t great, there’s no amazing view for these prices you would expect something a little more special.

The biggest critic was portion size, I left the restaurant feeling hungry after ordering two starters; and two mains. The rice portion is too small and then it’s expensive at 30baht for a very small bowl to order more. Rice is the cheapest thing you can offer and cheapest thing to buy. So fixing this small issue can leave customers more satisfied and full.

Also the curry portion its too small also. I counted 5 tiny tiny pieces of chicken. Every restaurant I’ve been to offer a much bigger curry with too much chicken. I’ve gone to other Thai restaurants and I’ve been left with too much food which is better than not having enough. The soup is also too small I only was able to drink one small bowl each person, in other restaurants I’ve received bigger portions which are more shareable with other people. The meals here are not really shareable sizes.

Another negative aspect for me was the menu size was too big, it took a long time to read and select items. And the special menu was highly inflated prices.

Just some small adjustments to make and I would come back and give a 5. As I’m writing this I am going to have to go out and eat again. I would have ordered more but only cash accepted and I didn’t have...

Love Thai food and have been all over the country over the last few weeks. Started in Ko Kut, went north to Chaing Mai for a week, hit Bangkok and wrapped the trip in Ko Samui.

The bar was set very high…

This was the best and most memorable meal I had in Thailand.

Chicken Curry burritos were insane. The star of the show really. They come with a peanut curry dipping sauce that I coulda drank through a straw. Shrimp balls…ridiculous Masaman with short rib sensational I prefer northern pad thai, but..10/10 on the southern scale Smoked duck was outstanding. Again (from Texas) its was clutch.

Here’s the kicker…I’ve had fried bananas before, but whoa.

Crispy donut, gooey hot super sweet banana, raw honey drizzle, coconut ice cream and a bit of cinnamon. WTF.

The food had flowers on it…it was beautiful.

The fruity drinks were pulpy and sweet. Just right.

Lastly, the restaurant is clearly well cared for. Meticulously cleaned. Clean uniforms on the servers. Artfully appointed with bamboo siding, stepping stone entry and beautiful landscaping, interior paint and great fan coverage for balmy nights.

They have a “sit on the floor table,” really tempting. We tried that, but moved after 5 minutes. American hips don’t bend right for that.

The owner came to the table to rub elbows and was truly sweet. She runs a tight ship. The prices were standard Thai prices. BHT starts to feel like Monopoly money after a while.

I think we got in and out of there for 1000BHT each, but we ordered damn near the whole menu.

This place is sooo amazing! The food was amazing. Let me go into further detail about what we ordered:

We ordered the spring rolls and they were soo amazing! The sweet chilli sauce was spicy and amazing! It also comes with a yummy cucumber salad.

The tempura vegetables are amazing and come with the sweet chilli sauce.

The Stay Kai (Satay chicken skewers) were absolutely amazing and the peanut sauce that came with them is perfect! Comes with yummy cucumber salad.

The Pad Thai is absolutely amazing and very well presented. I got mine vegetarian with tofu and veggies and egg. It is not your usual pad thai, but it taste sooo much better and I’m really fussy with how I like my pad thai. Definitely my new favourite! I wish I could have it all the time!

My friends got the Pan Fried Duck with sweet chilli and stir-fried veggies AND the Stir-Fried Beef with Garlic Pepper. I had a try of it and they were both amazing!

We also got the Grilled Pineapple & Ice Cream and the Fried Banana & Ice Cream and they were both amazing!

I liked my Virgin Pina Colada and my friend loved her Banana & Strawberry Smoothie.

We are definitely coming back here again, probably a few times! This place is truly amazing!!! Thanks for having us!
