The Fish Restaurant — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

After looking for somewhere to eat, we came across glowing reviews for The Fish Restaurant — and we’re so glad we decided to try it.

When we arrived around 7pm, the front seating area was already buzzing, and the courtyard was booked for a large group. The team kindly set up a table for us in the courtyard anyway, giving us a quieter, more intimate spot, which was such a thoughtful touch.

We were given plenty of time to browse the menu before our waiter came over. When we asked for a recommendation, he suggested the BBQ barracuda — we couldn’t resist. We swapped the mash for fries and also ordered the BBQ seabass. The portions were generous, beautifully presented, and full of flavour.

The seabass was perfectly cooked — soft, delicate, and infused with lemongrass and chilli, giving it a wonderful depth of flavour. The accompanying fish sauce was fresh and tangy, pairing beautifully with the dish. The barracuda was a highlight, served with a vibrant mango salsa that was bursting with freshness — I loved every bite. The fried rice was the ideal side for both dishes, packed with vegetables and seasoned to perfection.

This was, without doubt, one of the best meals we’ve had in Thailand across all our visits. The service team were warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly, making the whole experience even more special.

We were driving by and decided to have dinner. There were two free tables. We sat down at the one closest to the road. We placed an order and are waiting. The temperature is 29 degrees, we are outside, the heat is unbearable. There was a switched-off fan nearby, but we decided that it was broken since it was switched off. There is no air conditioning. After 40 minutes of our wait, a couple sat down at the next table and they immediately turned on the same fan, while we were sweating. They directed it personally at them, not even the slightest breeze fell on us... After an hour, during which no one approached us, we were already itching to get up and leave. We called the waitress and asked how long we needed to wait, since we were waiting for the second hour. She went to clarify and only after that they started bringing us food. In total, we sat in the unbearable heat for about 1 hour and 10 minutes, plus the time we ate. This restaurant has zero service and zero respect for customers. I'll never come again. The dishes we ate were all very sweet. Soups, like compotes, rice are also terribly sweet. They asked for salt and salted everything; it was impossible to...

Rather disappointed, probably one of the worst experiences we had during our trip in Thailand. We came here due to the really good reviews, but it is hard for me to understand the high rating. When we ordered, we were asked if we wanted everything together and we said yes. But by the time my food came, my partner was already done eating. The shrimp tempura was rather disappointing, especially for that price. The batter is wasn’t great, would have been better with Panko. Had better shrimp tempura at the Chiang Rai night market for 1/4 of the price. The biggest disappointment was the pineapple shake, which was clearly made with canned pineapple. It had that unpleasant canned pineapple after taste. The canned pineapple was also used for the curry. If at least the place was cheap we would have been fine with it. But we had better meals all over Thailand for roughly...
