Brick House — Restaurant in Udon Thani Province

I loved the food and service here for years. Took me a while trying not to write this review. I took my friend there telling him its one of the nicest place there. After my food simple request of "sauce on the side" was ignored, they replaced the meal, but they didn't give me a fork which I tried not to read too much into it, after I ordered 4 drinks from the menu, they charged me more than double for each and blamed it on the computer. The staff while polite, blamed the previous shift after the owner stepped in. The owner blamed the staff whom I didn't want to get hurt by this. I ended up paying the bill, after they corrected it to the actual drink I ordered. I didn't eat the food and wanted to leave it there, but my friend took it to go. I used to pay a lot there enjoying the good food and service. I felt like I paid a lot for just ruining my love for this place, the lunch and my image in front of my out of town friend. I feel sad about this. Felt sad about the staff blaming the computer(which turns out to be not true) then previous shift staff and the owner blaming them to try to please me. They are all nice people, but that's my experience. Never again that's for sure.

Update - I will accept any wrong doing I have done, but it seems the blame is being shifted on me and my "disgusting behavior" for sharing my experience, paying the bill and wishing (maybe unsucessfully) for staff not to get in trouble. Hello MB Thats a nasty kick in the back from your side. I went to see and talk to you at your table, after I learned there was a discussion about the price of "black" whiskey. After gathering the information it occurred that you ordered Barr Black label. My staff gave and charged you for Johnny Walker Black label, You also was served Johnny Walker black label. My staff understood "Black Label", Therefore, I corrected your bill to 2x cheap Barr black label at 2x80 baht. Furthermore, I asked you if there was a problem with the food. You mentioned that you ordered sauce on the side. The kitchen staff put the sauce on the dish, which they corrected. You urged me not to be harsh with the staff and you understood it all because you are having a life by yourself in Thailand. My apologies were not needed you said. I find the food inconsistent- one day it can be acceptable, on another it can be near on inedible. I don’t know if this is because they have different cooks of varying ability in the kitchen at different times. It’s mostly microwave cooked meals. Spare ribs are a house speciality. A friend of mine ordered a rack and they were served up part frozen, he sent them back for another blast in the microwave of course, but if you’re going to use that method of cooking at least train the staff how to operate a microwave. Never been a fan of British breakfasts - the ones served here look like a heart attack on a plate, but they’re no worse than anywhere else in Thailand. The staff are efficient and welcoming and the overall atmosphere and service are good. It’s got a real old world feel. Good selection of beers and live music. Probably the best place in town for a drink in western surroundings. A good chef and an upgrade on the food would really lift the Brick House Inn to another level. Foremost, I want to say my hearty "thank you" for Max, the owner of this lovely place and his fantastic crew for making the birthday of my husband very special. I can't even express how happy I am that I've chosen Brick House Inn as a place for celebration. Million times, many thanks,indeed. However, I strongly recommend this place to everyone not only because of the birthday party of my husband, hell no. The point is that In Brick House Inn you can find everything you're looking for: beer lovers (as my husband) will find wide range of beer, food lovers (as myself) find varieties of delicious food. In other words this place can meet every need of the person who is looking for the place for rest after busy day. Just one piece of advice: don't eat too much before you come here. Otherwise you'll regret that you can't taste all delicious food you find inside of the menu. Definitely, this place will be in the list of our " must visit"places in our next trip...
