Do not go if you are remotely hungry and want to eat within one hour, or expect any level of professionalism if something goes wrong.
I really hate to write this, but the most important thing about a restaurant is that when something goes wrong, they are honest, aologise and learn from it. This did not happen for us unfortunately and is likely to happen anytime the restaurant gets busy as they have way too many tables for the capacity of the kitchen.
This was our third time here, as food is decent and shakes good, and they knew we were on a course and needed to get back within 90 minutes. Service was quite slow, food typically served after 40 minutes but we had made it in that time.
Third time absolutely not, which would have been fine had we not been lied to repeatedly and that nothing was offered in terms of an apology, despite our previous custom.
Before we arrived people had ordered three fish, but they said nothing when we rocked up. After 45 minutes we reminded them we needed to eat and get back, they said 5 more minutes. They said this every time we asked. We had stood up to leave after a FURTHER 45 minutes when the first food arrived!
Very frustrated, and very late for our course, we rushed our food and asked for a discount. Absolutely not, with the excuse being that three fish had been ordered by another table. No explanation as to why they had not thought to pre inform us. Very sad and ultimately silly as we avoided for the rest of our two weeks. We did not get a single...
Read moreA very warm welcome awaits at you Lae Lay Restaurant. Its elevated position provides a cool respite from the heat as well as giving partial views of the sea and a position from where you can watch the comings and going’s of daily life in the street below. It is also fun to watch the busy open kitchen.
Staff are so smiley, friendly and polite. Kuhn Bun the owner runs a very tight ship and Kuhn Dollar’s megawatt smile can brighten the darkest of January days!
The food is nothing short of excellent. We made it our mission to work our way through the entire menu and what a mission to have. Everything we ordered was excellent and they will happily adapt traditionally spicy dishes to any strength you wish. The pad Thai is one of the best we’ve ever had. The curries are delicious. Highlights for us: every curry on the menu, the shakes (esp the Thai strong coffee frappe), pad Thai, calamari, chips, papaya salad, satay chicken, chicken cashew nut - basically you will not be disappointed with anything you order. Presentation is also always excellent and the photos on the menu do not do the food justice.
It was definitely a highlight of our holiday trip. We spent a month in Ao Yon and think we ate here at least 20 times. We are very sad to leave and really hope we...

The menu consists of multiple cuisines, they have seafood, Thai food, burger (didn’t look too promising), pizza and even Indian food options. A full drink menu (smoothies, fruit juices, Thai teas). They confirmed that the ice is (drinking water safe) but I still opted for a can.
Onto the food, we tried the chicken satay, it was a some skewers of chicken served with peanut sauce and a vinaigrette. It was flavourful, especially with the sauce (bits of peanuts in it)
We got the pad Thai (chicken), served with a packet of sugar, spices and sweet sauce. Though mild, this pad Thai was absolutely delicious, full of flavour, bits of tofu in it, ample amount of chicken as well. This was a satisfying meal.
The Thai tea came out cold that it was misting! It was very fresh.
Oh, bathroom was very clean (with toilet paper). There’s also notices on the wall offering tours that can booked...
