Disappointing Dining Experience at Calcutta - Overpriced for Subpar Quality
Date of Visit: November 4th, 2023
I recently dined at Calcutta, an Indian cuisine restaurant, with my partner, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired.
While the ambiance and service were satisfactory, the same cannot be said for the quality of the dishes. Regrettably, the food did not meet the standards one would expect from a restaurant specializing in Indian cuisine. The flavors were lackluster, and the overall execution left a lot to be desired.
Furthermore, the pricing at Calcutta did not align with the quality of the dishes. The menu presented a range of prices that, in my opinion, exceeded what one should pay for the caliber of food served.
In summary, while Calcutta provided a pleasant atmosphere and courteous service, the subpar quality of the dishes coupled with the relatively high prices left me feeling disappointed with the overall experience. I hope that the restaurant takes steps to improve the consistency and flavor profiles of their offerings...
Read moreAs fans of indian food, we used to go to this restaurant.. even after their mistake of making payment for twice. First we paid with a credit card, and they said it did’nt work so we paid with cash… just to find out a few days later actually the credit card worked.
We called the restaurant right away and they told us that they were going to contact the bank to cancel the payment. We trusted them and waited. A bit later we returned to the restaurant to have a dinner and reminded them that the problem was not solved and we were still waiting. They remembered us and promised to do the necessary.
Months have been passed already and we visited the place again to talk about the issue they still say we have to wait and come back again etc…
We have been living in Tunisia for almost 2 years and this kind of problem never happened except at this restaurant.
Be careful when making a payment here. And we hope that this issue can be solved as soon as possible…...
Read moreFood is somewhat lacking deep Indian touch such as ghee butter and a few spices tho I appreciated the flexible attitude of the Indian chef to whom I spoke to and who told me to simply ask what I wanted on my next visit and he would accommodate me 👌the chef also explained that sadly there r still a few Indian ingredients missing in Tunisia which doesn’t make his life easier. A few papadum or similar bites with our apéritif would have been nice. Service is top . Overall, the baddest thing is the decor which Is so yang and little space for the yin. Hence to the manager/owner of the place: a feminine touch is a must ! ( a few drapes, more Indian decor and specially a different kind of lightning as opposed to this cold spotlight would be easy enough to change). As a matter of fact it’s funny to notice there r NO woman working there 🤔A bit overpriced for what we ate. A place I would nonetheless try again with specifics request given...
