Bayazhan in Gaziantep is truly a one-of-a-kind dining experience that deserves every bit of a five star rating. Located in the heart of a historic Han, once a resting place for travelers and their horses along the ancient Silk Road, it offers a rare combination of authenticity, history, and unforgettable flavors. The architecture has been beautifully preserved, and walking through the main gate after security feels like stepping back in time into a well-lit complex under the open sky. The atmosphere is magical, blending ancient charm with vibrant local culture.

On the left side, there is a cozy indoor restaurant mostly used during winter since it can be heated, while on the right, there is a small bar that occasionally serves drinks. Straight ahead, you’ll find a peaceful section with a fountain and a restaurant suited for families or guests who prefer a non-alcoholic setting. Upstairs is the highlight for many, a true meyhane-style restaurant where the energy is lively and authentic. Live music plays a central role here, with talented musicians performing traditional Turkish melodies using classical instruments. Their music fills the night with joy, and it’s a special cultural touch to tip them while they play, something to be prepared for with cash on hand.

The food is absolutely outstanding, showcasing the culinary richness Gaziantep is famous for. The must-try dish is the kusleme, the most tender lamb fillet from the back, grilled to perfection. It is limited in portion and very popular, so it’s wise to reserve it with your waiter as soon as you arrive. Another unforgettable dish is the patlıcan kebap, where grilled eggplants are alternated with kebab on skewers. Eating it the traditional way, by smashing the soft eggplant into lavash bread, topping it with the juicy kebab, onions, and a sprinkle of sumac, is a true taste of Gaziantep’s heritage. The appetizers are equally delightful, with fresh mezze made from locally grown ingredients, tangy pickles, and organic olives that bring authentic flavors to the table.

Depending on the season, the experience changes slightly. Summer evenings can be quite warm under the open sky, while autumn and winter nights can get chilly, so bringing a jacket is recommended. Regardless of the weather, Bayazhan always delivers an atmosphere that makes every visit memorable. The waiter, Mr Murat, was very attentive and helpful. I have seen good reviews and heard good comments from locals to go to this place. Atmosphere indeed was nice, crowded, buzzing, as i like a place to be, but as a foreigner i personally thought the service poor ... From the moment i arrived no one seemed to care to help, had to ask a few waiters until someone actually stopped a second to hear me out but even then he seemed to be somewhat annoyed and just ushered me to the upstairs area where he just left me standing alone, no info or table. Eventually i sat myself down ... Food was good but not out of the ordinary ... Plus is they serve alcohol ... Overall wasnt impressed and due to service not worth the visit. Our engagement at Bayazhan was absolutely unforgettable. I’m so glad I chose this beautiful venue. The staff was incredibly attentive, and the food oh, the food! It was so delicious, I couldn’t hold back my tears while eating. It truly moved me.

The atmosphere was filled with joy and warmth as we danced and joined in the halay. Even though the space was a bit cozy, it only added to the sense of togetherness. Everyone felt so connected, and it made the evening even more special.
