Lost in Alanya — Restaurant in Alanya

Update January 2023: Lost is consistently excellent in all aspects, except for availability for last-minute reservations. They have opened a second restaurant a few steps down the road, at the corner with Yayla Yolu Cd. with a similar (yet different) menu and concept. Aptly named FOUND, the new restaurant is just as packed as Lost and just as good (or even better in certain aspects like space) and is the obvious alternative for dinner when Lost is full. Regarding the food at Lost, I have yet to find a dish I don't like, but 2 dishes stand out to me : the kaburga (beef back rib), a slow cooked beef rib with demi-glace and a divinely creamy mashed potato puree as well as the Lost version of Thai Curry (Chicken or shrimp), made with red Thai curry paste and lots of mushrooms and other vegetables and topped with cilantro. I was initially surprised at the presence of mushrooms as that's not a usual ingredient in Thai curry, but I have to admit that it's a great choice: the taste and texture complement the dish very well and the quality of the mushrooms themselves is outstanding.

Update December 2022: the service and food are still as fantastic as this summer and the place is still as packed, believe it or not. Perhaps that's why rumor has it that the location next door, on the corner with Yayla Yolu Cd., is going to become an extension of Lost? Let's hope this happens as it would allow the people who I often see get turned away for lack of a reservation enjoy the great experience that is Lost.

Update August 2022: the food is still as delicious as before, changes to the menu have been minor (thankfully, given the great dishes on there) and the (highly motivated) management has replaced last year's incompetent waiters with professionals. You don't have to try to get their attention by waving anymore, they will come by your table on their own initiative and ask if everything is to your liking. The only thing they still don't have is salt and pepper on every table. By choice, I suppose.

Original review from 2021: Outside dining only, so don't expect A/C or a smoke free environment. Poorly lit establishment which makes the food difficult to see in the evening. Said food, however, is absolutely delicious and clearly a notch above the competition. The waiter was a funny kind of incompetent: he came to LOOK at the table, but did not SEE the empty glasses or missing napkins. Or at least it didn't seem to register with him. I called him back as he was leaving to let him know what I wanted and promptly received it, no issues there. Somebody will however have to tell him what he should be...

We had heard about the place from friends and wanted to check it out.We went to another resturant that was closed so we came to Lost and we were told we could sit for only 45 minutes since there were other reservations. We decided to take it but I think in all the fairness we shouldn't have. The table was just by the bar and passage to the back and the kitchen so too much traffic. Since I had chosen a dish which I was told was too spicy so I had to make another choice quickly which ended up being a simple chicken salted with mushroom sauce. Which was just OK. The first course of asparagus with hollendase sauce and poached egg was very good and the red curry that my cousin had ordered and was not too spicy after all. The chicken sovluky was OK. Absolute recommendation in Alanya, if not in the whole world. Top notch food, we ordered the ribeye and the lamb shank and both were simply perfect. For dessert, the souffle is a must, as is the creme brulee. Drinks were also amazing.

The musicians playing at night got ovations, and added to the incredible atmosphere of the place.

To top it all off, service was fast and super kind. They accepted us 10 minutes before kitchen closing times (00:00!), being super accommodating and impressively effective. Canberk did an amazing job taking care of us.

I cannot stress this more, this is a must in the region, and worth a trip even if you're 100km away.
