The Dubai Et VE Mangal — Restaurant in Bakırköy

We had what started as an amazing dinner at Dubai Et & Mangal in Istanbul. The food was excellent, and the service was attentive—at least five different staff members checked in on us to make sure everything was perfect. We loved the interactive experience of cooking our own meal, and the table-side cocktails were delicious.

However, everything changed when it came time to pay. We were shocked to find out they do not accept Visa—one of the most widely used cards in the world. They put my card through and it was declined. My friend’s credit card was also declined. They only accept Turkish Lira or American Express, which they never disclosed beforehand. There were no signs, and no one mentioned this while ordering.

This led to an incredibly uncomfortable and embarrassing situation. I had to leave my friend at the restaurant and take an Uber back to our hotel to get cash. Meanwhile, they treated us like criminals—almost refusing to let me leave, and when I returned, there were 10 staff members surrounding our table as if we were trying to run off without paying.

I told them they need to clearly inform customers about their limited payment options, especially in a city full of international visitors. The way they handled the situation completely ruined an otherwise lovely evening.

We used to like this place last year but NOT ANYMORE after they changed the manager. Very rude guy. THIS GUY IS NOT FRIENDLY LIKE THE LAST MANAGER we used to see! They way he talk is SO ARROGANT. My husband made reservation for dinner with our family. We booked a table upstairs as we used to do before this. They even CONFIRMED our booking! But when we came for dinner, he said we can't take the table BECAUSE WE HAVE KIDS (2 KIDS aged 9 & 7). Reason given is that kids will run around! I am disappointed, my first time I try the restaurant, the manager (as he said he is manager ) but he is maybe receptionist ….
