Ah, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal – where culinary wizardry meets a dining spectacle that’s nothing short of miraculous. Entering the restaurant, you half expect to be greeted by Heston himself, in a chef’s hat so tall it scrapes the ceiling, ready to escort you on a gastronomic journey rivaled only by a trip to Hogwarts. First up, the Transparent Bloody Mary – a concoction so innovative, it makes you question if Heston has secretly mastered invisibility. It rocks your socks off, not just because of its taste, but because you spend the first five minutes marveling at how something can be so clear yet pack such a flavorful punch. Then there are the triple-fried fries. Yes, you heard that right – not double, but triple, because why settle for Belgian standards when you can go one better? These fries are so crispy, they could be used as a benchmark for crispiness in scientific studies. And let’s not forget the Meat Fruit – a dish so deceptive, it could be charged with identity theft. Mandarin and chicken liver parfait come together in an edible illusion that leaves you questioning all your life choices up to that point. It’s less of a dish and more of a revelation, proving once and for all that not all fruits are to be trusted. Capping off the meal is the Tipsy Cake, so named because it’s imbued with enough alcohol to make even a cake feel slightly inebriated. It’s the perfect end to a meal that’s been less about eating and more about experiencing food theater at its finest. The service? Impeccable. You’re half-convinced the staff has been trained at a butler academy where the final exam involves serving tea on a rollercoaster without spilling a drop. And the sommelier – oh, the sommelier. Not only does he recommend the perfect wine pairings, but he weaves a story around each one, making you feel like you’re not just dining, but embarking on an epicurean adventure. In conclusion, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal isn’t just a meal; it’s an experience that leaves you with the unmistakable feeling of having witnessed culinary magic. It’s impressive, not just in the dishes that defy expectation but in the way it elevates dining to an art form. Bravo, Heston. Bravo.

Well, I have not been to Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the Mandarin Oriental in London, so I had to go to this one. Unfortunately for Heston, I have been to the fat duck and been absolutely blown away so that is the level with which I judge his restaurants. The concept behind this restaurant is that Heston has gone back hundreds of years to find old recipes and give them a modern twist. Overall I think he has succeeded. I would say the food was just lacking a little something that I can’t quite put my finger on. It was perfectly cooked, well presented and the service was excellent even when we sent back a bottle of wine we thought tasted like chemicals. We also got a tour of the kitchen and the wine cellar. Great experience. We had the five course tasting menu: - scallop: well cooked, prepared and presented. Just not as good as Gordon Ramsay which is how I judged my scallops now. - meat fruit: this was absolutely wonderful. Fantastic presentation and the taste was sublime along with their restaurant baked bread - hake: a fantastic flavour, a good portion size and they cooked me another one when I suspected that it may not be cooked all the way through although the chef said it was. I wasn’t going to take any chances as I had a flight a couple of hours later. They even replaced it with a bigger portion size. - venison: it is so easy to overcook venison and they cooked this without a doubt in the most sublime way. It was pink all the way through and melted in the mouth. Well done. - dessert: perfectly pitched sweetness to finish us off Highly recommended. Although I would recommend you go to the fat duck first and I plan on going to dinner in the Mandarin Oriental to compare .

Only the third 'Dinner by Heston' in the world, after London and Melbourne, the one Michelin star award winning Dinner by the British chef Heston Blumenthal, although his feet have not been in it yet. Dining room is huge with different seating areas. The decor and ambience is warm and rich; leather detailing, large rosewood tables, and dim lighting. Some tables which are close to the glass wall have beautiful views looking out onto the hotel’s water fountain. Heston Blumenthal's culinary quests led him to 'The Forme of Cury' - one of England's oldest recipe books - and it is from this and other historical works that dishes such as 'rice and flesh' and 'frumenty' (c.1390) come. His signature dishes such as the Meat Fruit and Tipsy Cake are all available. The Rice and Flesh was the star of the meal. Full of flavour. My friend liked the Powdered Duck and found it to be very fresh. My Fillet was not admirable. The quality of the meat was not appealing and the sauce didn’t go well with it. It was over salty. The chef’s famous triple-cooked chips was below expectations; over salty and texture inconsistent. The Tipsy Cake (the made a virgin version of it soaked in vanilla instead) was delicious. Overall the food was tasty but nothing to rave home about it. Does it worth a Michelin start? Don’t think so. There are better ones in town. Service is professional and polished. Waiters call guests by their names and were very attentive.

I really wanted to like this restaurant, I had been looking forward to visiting, but it fell flat in too many ways. The food was a mixed batch. And the service was all over from start till end. I think based only on our experience, I would give it only 1 or 2 stars but as it is newly open, there are few reviews and there was some goodwill, I don't want to single-handedly bring the score down too much.

The food: The rice and flesh dish was an absolutely delightful risotto with a well executed beef tongue. The meat fruit looked pretty but was fairly uninteresting taste-wise, a pretty basic liver parfait, just overly buttery. The duck felt like it had been boiled, the skin was soggy which made it not very enjoyable to eat (that is something we mentioned to our waiter and the manager actually removed the dishes from the bill). The fries were tasty. Within the desserts, the Tipsy cake was a brioche with roasted pineapple, it was perfectly enjoyable. The Brown bread ice cream was a mixed experience, the flavours were fine, but it terribly lacked balance and variety in textures. The ice cream itself was interesting, but it lay on a bed of caramel, which was extremely rich and dominant. Besides that, there were precious few elements, a few tiny pieces of pear, croutons, and some sirup. The overall experience felt more like eating a plate a very rich buttery paste, giving a similar sensation to the Meat fruit. Finally, we were given a shortbread biscuit filled with butter cream, which again reinforced this fatty, overly rich sensation.

The service: the experience felt extremely scripted without being smooth. We weren't asked who was drinking sparkling or still and got served wrong. We were told that someone would come tell us about the menu, so we waited and waited. Eventually, we looked at it and decided what we wanted before anyone came. We never got the wine menu, the sommelier came to ask if we wanted wine after we had started eating the starters. Generally, whenever you engaged with the server, hostess, or any staff member, there was a kind of blank during which they seemed to be aiming to recall how to actually talk to a person without a rehearsed script. Yet despite all these scripts, we only heard the stories of the starters (even though we had expressed our interest in hearing the dishes' history as per the concept of the restaurant). There was a general mood of anxiety with the staff, which we both picked up on. Two tripped on each other to open the door for us, another was rushing to present the dishes while serving water and dropped half of it on the table. Two struggled to put our two starters on the table, trying 4 different positions before succeeding in their placement. We interacted with 5 or 6 staff all in all and all looked stressed, which doesn't make for a relaxing evening. It almost felt like we should protect them from more stress and just smile quietly rather than add to their load.

The decor/space: This is a very personal element, but I did not enjoy the space. It was too dark, the materials were nice but some of the tables are too small, too close from each other and the fact that it is a very large room gave me an impression...

Everything about Heston Blumenthal’s Dubai restaurant is simply put: amazing. For our 10th anniversary on December 30th 2023 we decided to try something different, something new that we haven’t before. So it turns out this was a fantastic choice! For two people, two starters and two mains with a shared dessert is plenty as all the food is very rich in taste. Everything we tasted was chemistry, innovative, extraordinary. Furthermore, each dish on the menu has a date which shows when it was concocted first. The service was amazing too. Heston chose to even give out 3 cards which lets the staff know how much of an interaction are you in the mood for! For starters we opted for Meat Fruit. What might look like a mandarin or plum is in fact chicken liver pate (parfait) which is to be spread on grilled bread. Dating back to 1500, I reckon it’s a must. We also chose the oldest dish on the starters: Rice and Flesh. King Richard II cooks had this in their scrolls - what were cook books back then. Saffron rice with beef cheeks! Just wow. For the mains, yes theres the wagyu fillet steak, ribeye steak but we wanted something different so took the Roast Halibut as well as the Venison which were both luscious! There’s also cod with mussels which I’d love to try next time! For desserts we ordered the Brown Bread Ice Cream (salted caramel) but were also given a nice chocolate cake with passion fruit at the bottom as a gift for our anniversary which was very nice from the staff. Theres also the famous Tipsy Cake (spit roast pineapple) which requires atleast 40 minutes to prepare as well as a cart with ice cream which is prepared using something that resembles an historical machine for show! In the center of the restaurant we noticed a huge mechanical pineapple which opens & closes. Restaurant itself is quite comfy, spacious. You dont feel squeezed. A balcony overlooking the fountain light show of Atlantis the Royal where Beyonce performed during the opening is accessible especially for those who wish to go out for a smoke. I highly recommend this restaurant as it definitely lives up to its One Micheline Star rating (the only restaurant at this new hotel with such a rating from what we understood) and for being something completely different to the others in Dubai. Good luck to the restaurant and look forward...
