Looking for somewhere that was both healthy and satisfying, we thought we would explore a New Mexican offering - Maiz Tacos in Dubai Hills.
The restaurant is situated by the park in a very modern and nicely fitted out unit. The restaurant is spacious but has a good amount of seating with a light airy feel to it.
As we entered we were greeted by the friendly and attentive staff.
We looked through the menu which is predominantly tacos surrounded by other Mexican dishes.
We opted for tortillas with guacamole, spicy wings and a chicken quesadilla for starters.
We each then selected some tacos for our main course. We figured with the starters/appetisers, a pair of tacos would be enough food and we could order more if required.
The tortillas came in a bowl and thankfully wasn’t a huge portion, the guacamole was fresh and with the right amount of ingredients to give it a balance between creamy and savoury.
The wings were nice and big and coated with a great spicy sauce. One of the kids claimed they were the best wings he had very tasted.
Even the quesadilla, which I normally find stodgy and too cheesy, was tasty. There was a good layer of grilled, marinated chicken, salsa and grated cheese. They had used small tacos and toasted the whole lot to a great crispiness it was delicious and light.
Finally, the main course came. The tacos here are very filling and fully loaded! The birria is quite pricey but you get a lot for your money. The meat was very tender and juicy with a little cheese to balance it out. The jus/consomme to dip the birria taco in lacked some seasoning and depth. It doesn’t ruin the dish but it’s not as good as Birria in Global Village.
The second taco was the grilled chicken which was even more loaded and had a layer of pickled onion and salsa.
The final taco was a vegetable one with a layer of roasted, spiced cauliflower, cashews, black beans, salsa and a spicy sauce. This was even bigger than the chicken taco. It was very delicious with lots of different textures, layers and flavour. It’s a total bargain for 35 dhs for two tacos too.
Overall the bill was a bit pricey but I think if you adjust for the healthy servings and stick to the less expensive tacos, you can eat well And healthily for a modest budget.
Overall this is an excellent featured with some tasty, authentic food and...
Read moreI’ve been craving Birria tacos for a while now and Maiz Tacos was the next on the list to find the holy grail of birrias. And I was not disappointed. Every single order was superb and you could taste the love and passion being put into the dishes.
Roxy was our server and Brian helped us with changing tables. They both welcomed us with open arms and made us feel at home. Roxy was very warm and kind with spot-on recommendations.
Chef Luma was kind enough to come by and chat with us about her 10+ year experience in the culinary world and her passion-project, Maiz Tacos. Her passion really translated through the dishes. Genuinely some of the most refined and tastiest Mexican food I’ve had. This is most definitely added to my “Crave” list of restaurants to come back to and try the rest of the menu. Chef Luma and her staff made us feel like we just booked a trip to Puerto Vallarta and found a hidden gem taqueria.
Aesthetically, I felt like I was in an Adobe-esque home. Super calming interior with the entrance making you feel like you’re waking through the kitchen then into the dining room. The restaurant emits a homey and cozy atmosphere.
Now down to the good stuff,
The salad was fresh, crunchy, and refreshing. The Birria was juicy, gooey, cheesy goodness. The broth was unbelievable, I was tempted to ask Roxy to pour it in a to-go cup 🥤 so that I can chug it on the way back home. The Pollo Loco has got to be the star of the afternoon. Roxy asked if we’d prefer corn or flour tortilla. I can only imagine how good the flour tortilla is but we went for the corn tortilla. My goodness was it spectacular. The soft and delicate nature of the corn tortillas and its grainy texture is something I’m gonna dream about for the next couple of days… the ingredients as mentioned by Chef Luma during our chat are top tier, “I would want to serve you what I would serve my children, the best of the best!”
Amazing, amazing, amazing. Hoping to bring the rest of my family to try this gem.
I wish Chef Luma and her team the best of luck in this venture as she’s truly cooking up something magical with this...

If you're craving fresh, authentic Mexican flavors in Dubai, Maiz Tacos in Dubai Hills is a must-visit. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and genuine enthusiasm from Akim and the entire team — a level of service that instantly made the experience feel personal and inviting.
We started with the classic guacamole and chips, and it set the tone for the rest of the meal. Creamy, vibrant, and clearly made fresh to order, the guac had just the right amount of lime and seasoning, while the chips were perfectly crisp and golden — the kind you could keep snacking on all day.
Next came the Camarones de Verano, a standout dish that was as refreshing as it was flavorful. The shrimp were cooked to perfection — tender and juicy — and paired with a zesty mix of citrus and herbs that captured the essence of summer on a plate. It was light, yet deeply satisfying.
For the main, we tried the Pollo Bowl, and it did not disappoint. Generously portioned, the grilled chicken was marinated beautifully — smoky, succulent, and full of bold Mexican spices. Paired with rice, beans, pico de gallo, and fresh toppings, it was both hearty and wholesome.
What really sets Maiz Tacos apart is the consistency in quality and authenticity. Every bite felt like it came straight from a bustling street in Mexico — nothing overdone or commercialized, just honest, delicious food made with care.
Akim and the staff went above and beyond throughout our visit, making sure we were well taken care of without ever feeling rushed. Their passion for what they do shines through, making the whole dining experience feel like a celebration of good food and good company.
