Visited this place on Wednesday 29th and it was the worst food and drink I've ever had from a pub in my life. Me and my partner had been walking along the sea front for a couple of hours, maybe more, and fancied a pint. We thought we were in luck when we stumbled upon this place, how we were wrong. From the offset it looked like a lovely pub and inside it was spacious and seemed to have a nice atmosphere. I ordered two pints of Guiness and said to the barmaid that we may be eating as well and asked if we look at the menu. She didn't listen and wisked us upto the top of the pub in crowded area, which was fine I guess. My partner didn't like where we were sat and wanted to be somewhere quieter, so I asked the same barmaid if we could move. Initally she sat us next to a couple with a small child, then eventually she sat us further down where it was nice and quiet. I tasted my guiness, it was watery and had a chemical taste to it. I said to the same barmaid that it was undrinkable and she did pour me a pint of Peroni without any fuss, to be fair. However, this pint was just as bad! When she walked past our table I asked her to try it and she refused. It's not like she's drinking the whole pint, I was only asking her to sample it. My starter was lentil soup and it tasted like it was out of packet. Watery muck it was, like a cuppa soup. My mains was a small mixed grill and wasn't edible. I wouldn't even feed it to a dog it was that bad. I had the chips and the egg but I couldn't stomach the chicken or gammon and the sausage didn't look cooked. Cheap, processed, muck is the way only I'd describe this so called food. My other half had maccaroni cheese, which wasn't too bad, but it looked bland and had little taste to it. It also looked like something from a packet or a ready meal. The food is very cheap but it should atleast be edible, right? The manager brought me over a third pint or Bierre Moretti this time, without me asking for it, which was a nice touch, but that was disgusting as well. Three pints and not one was drinkable! The pub seemed very understaffed as well, with only one woman serving everyone and a manger who helped out a bit. Her customer service was awful as well as she seemed apathetic and bit ignorant at times, to us atleast. She served one couple at their table but we had to go the bar to order our stuff. You had to wait to be seated if you were eating but then there was no table service? Why not just put menus on the table and let people chose where they want to sit? It was all a bit chaotic and put us in a bit of a foul mood. Fortunately we found a nice cafe further up which put a smile back on pur faces. Never again will I visit a Green King pub, they...
Read moreThe Brig o Don looks nice, has friendly staff but the food is awful. This is our local that we have went to on a number of occasions over the years and the food has always been pretty standard but nice. The last two times me and my husband have been we have had to complain about the food. We had the ultimate fish and chips the first time which sounded great fish, scallops, prawns, scampi... when it arrived everything had been battered and deep fried. The batter was soggy, not crispy and there was loads of it. Once you scraped back the batter the fish you were left with was nice but very little of it. Our more recent experience we had the Sunday roast, husband had the beef and I had the chicken. All looked impressive when it arrived however once you began eating it was a different story. I had a massive amount of chicken on my plate but once I got through it only a quarter of it was edible. The rest was bones and sludge/blood part of the chicken... I've never known a chicken to have so many bones. The beef was chewy and grisly. The veg was ok (broccoli, carrots and green beans) the mash was over buttered with a layer of skin on top (like it has been sitting under a hot lamp for ages) the roast tatties well weren't roasted, they had been through the deep fat fryer and when you cut them open there was no potato, the potato had disintegrated in the heat, you were left with batter only. The parsnip for some bizarre reason had also been through the fryer, why you would do this I have no idea it just ruined the parsnip. The stuffing leek and apricot was a very weird combination of flavours. The beetroot cabbage had a weird taste, not too sure what it was but it wasn't good. The sausages wrapped in bacon were nice. The manager deducted money from our bill and gave us a free cups of tea and dessert. We had the cookie dough cheesecake... well this was the icing on the cake. It was awful, the only thing good about it was the ice-cream. We are so disappointed to the point that we will never go to the brig o don again for food and we have been customers for years. I feel sorry for the serving staff as they are all lovely, such a shame the food...
Read moreI honestly didn't expect to leave such a poor review. I have been here a few times with friends and it has always been great. Today I thought it would be a great place for a family dinner and catch up. With my mum, aunt brother sister in law and niece who is 2, sadly...... we were very disappointed.
The restaurant felt very cold, I know we are going through energy bills crisis but when you have little ones you expect it to be reasonably warm.
We were sat in a booth out of reach of any staff's eye contact. After we had our starters, it was a good 20 mins or so b4 my sister in law went to get staff to clear our plates and ask for my nieces pizza which we asked to be brought out with starters, this did not happen.
Our mains were about 10 or so mins after waiting so long and a 2 year old starving, 3 of main courses were wrong we asked for three roast beef but instead they brought 3 pork loins. They did take care of this straight away, however everyone's food was cold. We were going to say something but after waiting so long we didn't want to wait again for new plates of food to come out so we just ate it quickly got our bill and left.
I appreciate 20% off our bill for the mix up etc, however I felt embarrassed because i suggested the place to my family as I rated it high and the time we were there, the restaurant wasn't even busy, so we don't understand why the service etc was slow.
Ask team members to read back what people ordered so this doesn't happen again and keep your customers warm.
Sadly I won't be visiting anytime in the...
