Belper Bookcafe: Well, what can I say; at face value... Books and coffee, two things I really appreciate. However, this stop in Belper turned out to be much more than just books and coffee.
I came here with my partner on a spontaneous whim.... And I'm so glad we did, we had a lovely time and vow to return in the future.
The café is in an excellent spot, with dedicated parking which is free for up to two hours - anything more requires a permit from the café. As it turned out, 2 hrs was more than enough for us to have an elegant sufficiency :)
The building is two storey with customer dining on both the ground and first floor. There is also outside seating to be enjoyed when the sun is out. We opted for the ground floor as it seemed more sociable and we didn't want to disturb people reading upstairs.
The decor and atmosphere inside is one of the things I appreciated the most, it's rustic and industrial, with lots of interesting features.... And old books which really brings the name of the café to life.
The food was delicious, we ordered from the breakfast menu which was mostly locally sourced and was well worth paying that bit extra for.... Coupled with a coffee, it went down a real treat.
The staff were very friendly and service was what you would expect from an establishment that strives to deliver excellence. Polite and friendly which adds to the overall experience.
Before leaving we had to take a coffee and a slice of homemade cake for later on - yummy 😋
All in all, very happy with our stop and we will definitely be making a return visit in the...

Two adults and a child for breakfast on a Saturday morning. It was very quiet when we arrived and after entering our number plate on the tablet at the bar (which is a little intense) we found a table and looked at the menu. A small choice and seemed a little expensive but we hoped the quality would be worth it. There was no kids breakfast option and when I asked a member of staff they said I could order items individually but there were no prices for this either!
I ordered a breakfast flatbread, sausage cob and avocado on sourdough with crispy bacon. Sausage cob was fine, not great sausages and £5 wasn't too bad. The flatbread was ok but very sparsely topped and a little tasteless. Again not great quality but passable and £7.95 felt ok for it. The avocado on toast with bacon was a joke. £7.95 for underseasoned, lightly topped sourdough and then £1.50 for one slice of crispy bacon. It was embarrassing. I asked the manager who said this was the portion. I was clearly unhappy but he still sent one of his staff and didn't come himself to get feedback on our meals once we has started eating them.
All in all I wouldn't recommend, I wouldn't go back and I would recommend you just go to Morrisons across the road for breakfast. The food isn't as good a quality but you won't...
Read moreOver priced average food. Can't understand the justification of £3.10 for a small, very weak coffee. I had a veggie breakfast and initially thought it all looked good on the plate. In fact it was all quite insipid and poor quality. I know they use quourn sausages but they're like cheap Richmond sausages. Halloumi well over cooked, beans tasted odd, mushrooms just about cooked, but very tasteless, potatoes so incredibly oily and egg yolks tasted of nothing. I know the price of everything has gone up recently but I cannot fathom why this was £9.00. Morrisons next door might be cheap quality but at least you pay for what you get. Also didnt seem all that clean. On the plus the staff member that served was pleasant and decor okay. Being a book cafe I did expect more books, not just fake decorations. Really felt like a waste of my time and money, was looking forward...
