We’ve just returned from 2 nights at the Print House and are both a little disappointed. |It’s not all bad, but for the price we were expecting more. |The food quality was great and the evening meal we had in the restaurant was tasty. |Breakfast is disappointing. We knew to expect continental breakfast however it felt a bit lacking, especially at £170 a night. A cooked breakfast at this price point would have been better. The quality of the food, however, was good though. |The room itself isn’t massive, and certainly didn’t feel light and airy as described on the website. I think the addition of shutters at the window don’t help. |The king size bed felt small. I didn’t have a tape measure with me but my phone measured it at about 1.44m. There’s also no chair in the room as detailed on the web description. |The bathroom was a bit grubby, with a bit of mould down in the corner of the shower and a bit messy around the sink too. The clothes/garment hanger looked like it had had a bit of a bodge fix at some point and the wood hadn’t been painted. |Not quite sure what the bar hours are. Website says until 22:00 on a Monday and 23:00 on a Tuesday. We got back at approximately 20:45 hrs on Tues night after going out to another restaurant to eat to be told the bar was closed. We did get served though and advised we could sit on the snug. |Parking is verly limited. There are only 3 spaces at the front of the inn. You might have to go and park in a nearby road. |The staff were generally friendly and attentive.|Overall we felt like a few corners had been cut to try and save money, which we understand, but would rather have stayed somewhere else and got what we felt we’d paid for. Would have happily raised these points at checkout, but wasn’t asked, although the staff member was trying to run breakfast service...
Read morePopped in hoping to have Sunday lunch, we came in around 2:30pm, not busy at all, just 1 other table. The only main vegetarian option was a bit lacklustre, as for the other roast options, the menu had no price on, so we had to ask. The waitress said they must’ve forgotten to include these when printing the menu. So I ordered myself a Brixton beer and asked what the non alcoholic beer options were, the girl said Guinness zero and Peroni zero, I said I’ll have a Peroni zero and a couple bags of crisps. Sat down and then the waitress abruptly said are you ready to order? No as we were eating our crisps and having a chat. My partner who doesn’t drink alcohol and is also breastfeeding our child. She started to feel a bit tipsy because having checked her bottle of Peroni zero, it was in fact not alcohol free. We at this point had no other means of feeding our child and called the national breastfeeding hotline, to get some advice. Thankfully it was ok to feed our child contaminated breast milk. This incident put a huge dampener on the afternoon, I said to the young girl who initially served us, that it was not alcohol free and the response was very much a half hearted, oh we are sorry. This would’ve been taken a lot more seriously and entirely different if it was a food allergy or even religious. I had to ask for a refund for the £4 back for the drink. This itself came to them as a shock and an inconvenience. Less inconvenient that not being able to breastfeed our baby would have been. Then they gave us a few more effortless we are sorry. Needless to say, this visit to The Print House was by far from a pleasant experience. Maybe a bit more staff training and awareness would help and get the team to come across less abrupt and more sympathetic. This should be...
Read moreWe booked onto a wine tasting at nearby Chapel Down and wanted to stay locally and a Google search led us to The Print House. Looking for a nice romantic getaway we paid a little more to stay here, but were so glad we did as the bar, decor, hosts, rooms and food were a cut above your average hotel stay. During booking Seonaid (the owner) let us know we could park just out front, check in a little early and that they also could ferry us to and from Chapel Down (for less than the cost of a taxi one way!) On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the owners and their gorgeous labradors Hetty and Martha, and thoughtfully whipped up a quick bite in the bar (Kentish meat platter definitely recommended) before leaving for Chapel Down. We ate dinner in the bar that night, and whilst the menu is relatively modest, we were promised fresh food and that’s exactly what we got. Nice selection of beers on tap and more gin than you could sample in a week of trying. Our room was spotless and comfortable, with great smelling local toiletries and breakfast the next morning was served with the same warm smile and thoughtful conversation we had our whole stay. Thoroughly...
