Cock & Bell — Restaurant in Babergh

Went today(16/8/23) for a spot of lunch which was totally underwhelming. Ordered a couple of cokes and a lemonade to be told there was a pump failure so bottled drinks would be served. It happens so fair enough but to see staff walk in carrying bottles of lemonade from the CoOp a few doors away wasn't ideal given costs. Then ordered 3 sandwiches and waited outside. After 40 minutes I went back in to see where the food was and was told someone would check and come and tell me. 15 mins later despite the member of staff being outside serving several times we got zero updates. Went back in again to check and then the sandwiches arrived 5 mins later. In the time we waited another group who ordered AFTER us had had their sandwiches delivered and finished before ours arrived. The irony was that when ordering drinks a member of staff told the bar staff there would be a food service delay of 30 plus mins quietly yet the staff behind the bar didnt bother to relay this and kept quiet assuming we hsdnt heard the conversarion!

Hardly a decent service.

The chicken wrap was a 1/3rd filled tortilla wrap with a handful of rocket slapped on the plate that was drier than a camels behind...

Extremely disappointing to say the least.

Not very keen on a revisit to be honest based upon this really simple lunch order that could barely...

After being recommended here we were shocked at our experience. Firstly, the highchair was in the worst condition I’ve witnessed in any other pub/restaurant/hotel upon wiping it thick black dirt came off onto baby wipes and filled several with more dirt still coming off. Looked like it had never been cleaned since being put out in the restaurant. Secondly, one of the staff members so rude! Absolutely appalling service. Sniggering and laughing when we had to follow up our drinks order that took over 20minutes.. and only came due to us chasing it up as the girl had forgot to make them and then even questioned what we ordered and if we’d paid even though we were sat directly in front of the bar. Over 45mins delays on food despite having table booked. Witnessed staff being rude to other public customers who came to eat, didn’t greet them, said no food now whilst walking off so they actually left and went to another pub. Thirdly, the food. Worst pub food I’ve had in a long time if not ever. Tasteless, I would say worst than that served at a hungry horse. To be honest if I didn’t have my baby there in the middle of eating her meal I’d have left the second they were so disrespectful and laughing at my mum, whose birthday we came to celebrate. Shall not be returning as there are far nicer pubs...

Father’s Day letdown. Very disappointed with everything. arrived at 1.30 and advised 50 minute wait for food, informed staff that one of our group was diabetic and we had two young children but 50 minutes we could cope with. After chasing 3 times and 120 minutes later food arrived, potato’s were frozen , sausages so burnt they snapped in half , yorkshires burnt, vegetables cold , cauliflower with no cheese. The turkey was the only nice part. Drinks from the fridge were not cold . Other tables were served the wrong food and then when it was taken away and handed to another table (even though the customer had already had a potato and seasoned it with salt and pepper) the staff member was made aware but didn’t appear to mind- hope that other table didn’t notice the salt. We Killed around 10 ants climbing over the table and had flys around us all meal. What should have been a nice chilled out Father’s Day meal was a complete waste of money. Spoke to the staff and they said it was the worst day they have ever experienced and could only apologise as they were understaffed. Management need to sort this out and if you can’t manage that many people then stop...
