What a pretentious experience. We arrive at 09:30hrs and as we were about to sit at the table the older female member of staff calls, "Can you come over here". I walk to the counter like a beakoned dog and then she asks, "What would you like?". I respond with, "Do you have a Menu please?", to which she replies rudely, "They are on the table". I pick one off the table and then order from the ridiculously basic breakfast choice of one marmalade on toast and one ciabata with dry cured bacon. A gentleman appears and states, "We are out of ciabatta but can offer a standard bread roll instead". I respond with, "I take it that would be at a recduced cost?" He replied with a very blunt "No", so I turned around and we walked out. What establishment runs out of basic ingedients at 09:30am and also splits the breakfast menu into time zones, so if you want eggs on toast ie. a breakfast, you have to wait till 10:30. This place is so pretentious it's beyond words and the staff need a serious wake up call of how to offer customer service. We'll never be back and hope this...
Read moreIf you want a good fry up or a classic pub meal, go elsewhere. If you are keen on freshly prepared meals using fresh local ingredients, some from the back of the cafe, then stop in and enjoy what they have decided to offer for the fortnight. There is not a huge menu, but we loved all of it. They serve Union Coffee and a great local ale. We had meatballs, a small pizza, bruschetta, a cheese board with mostly local cheeses, apple crumble, beers, and coffee for 3 for less than £60. For breakfast we had avocado toast with fresh eggs, home made granola, more bruschetta and too much coffee (still shaking). It was great to see a group of Middle Age Men in Lycra (MAMILs) there this morning.
The cafe is sparse inside, not filled with unnecessary junk. The small fireplace gave a homey and chilled feel to the place. The chairs are not super comfortable, but certainly adequate.
This cafe is clearly well thought out and the owner is clearly passionate about what they are doing. I hope we can stop by again soon -- gutted that the Cyclist is not close by. Best of...
Read moreCalled in for a quick coffee and bacon sandwich. The coffee was luke warm at best and took 15 mins to arrive, and my bacon sandwich took 35 minutes to make, despite there being no other customers. I could have made a full English in my own kitchen in this time. I wont be rushing back. Shame
@ cyclist cafe owner. Thanks for your deflective response. Which I see you have now removed. However we were the only customers you had at the time which was around 10 mins after you opened for breakfast!!!! So no excuse for a 35 min wait I am afraid. And we would have complained but there was no one to complain to as you were busy talking in the kitchen quite ignorant of your customers! I rarely give a bad review as I would rather not return to a place. Neither would I ever fester and then complain on an online review. Only when I receive poor service that warrants a mention would I do this. And on this occasion I made an exception. Thanks...
