On a recent trip to Barmouth we pre-booked this restaurant based on the reviews we had read and we are glad we did. The place does not look particularly exiting from outside but we received a warm welcome and we were treated to an exceptional meal. We skipped the starters looking forward to dessert instead. My wife chose the Rack of lamb in mustard & herb crust with red wine sauce. I went for the Lemon roasted chicken supreme with garlic prawns, slow roasted onion & peppers with basil dressing. Both dishes were served with carrots,French beans, broccoli and potatoes. We also decided to try the Patatas bravas as a side dish. Although the meals included vegetables we were not sure if they included one of our favourite Spanish dishes so we added them to the meal. We drank the La Caban Viognier accompanied by a bottle of tap water. For dessert my wife had Classic cream brûlée with raspberries and I had a combination of Blackcurrant and coconut sorbet Everything about the meal was superb. Delicious, well prepared food with excellent service made the whole experience truly memorable. I expected a hefty bill at the end of such a lovely meal but was pleasantly surprised to have to pay just £88.50. Service charge is not included in the bill which is a refreshing change from the practice in many restaurants. Having said that such good, efficient and helpful service deserves reward. We will certainly book this place again when visiting the area and would recommend it as a place to try but remember to...

We had the loveliest meal for such a reasonable price, definitely recommend. The bistro is a tiny, cosy place run by a lovely couple. We had some fresh bread, butter and olive oil for appetizers, nice to start off the evening. We then had the orange and brandy duck parfait and sweet and sour prawn spring rolls for starters - both an absolute 10/10, easily the best parfait I ever had. The garnish combinations were brilliant, I believe it was toasted bread, cranberry and cucumber for the parfait, and some radish, cucumber and salad with the spring rolls. We then continued with the lamb and a steak, again both lovely meals. The steak was full of flavour and perfectly cooked medium-rare (as requested), the lamb had a lovely gravy on it which complemented the flavours perfectly. For desserts, we had creme brule and banoffee bread pudding. Such a nice way to end our evening. Portion sizes were reasonable and not too overwhelming. We could enjoy each meal without feeling too full at the end, but also well-fed as we left. I’d say it’s a great place for a romantic evening given the tunes and general atmosphere. Service was friendly but not too over the top, we were also promptly approached when our meals were finished. Our bill came to about £60 each, which is very reasonable for a bottle of red wine and a three course meal. Thank you Bistro Bermo for the great evening,...
Read moreWe made a restaurant reservation one day in advance. It is a tiny place with 7 tables, felt quite crowded. The interior had three fans running, but it was still uncomfortably warm. Without a reservation, it would have been challenging to secure a table.
For our appetizers, we ordered pan-fried king scallops and chicken liver. The chicken liver had an exquisite, smooth texture, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It received top marks as an appetizer.
Moving on to the main course, we opted for monkfish and an 8oz steak. Although the monkfish had a pleasing texture, it lacked any distinct flavor, which was disappointing. It felt like a missed opportunity to savor a flavorful dish. As for the steak, which I requested to be cooked medium-rare, it was slightly overdone and showed signs of being aged. This aspect left us somewhat dissatisfied with the main course.
We approached the service staff to inquire about the lack of flavor in the monkfish. They consulted with the chef and offered to prepare a fresh portion for us, but we declined the offer. Despite the attentive service, overall, it was a dining experience that fell short of our...
