I live really nearby, like a 5 minute walk and so this review is in fact based on up and over 100 visits over the last several years. It's not just because of its convenience that Brewers has become our family favourite go to, it is the wonderful service that all the staff give (special shout out to Carl though who deserves a review all of his own, such is his dedication to ensuring your visit here is perfect. I have been here for a large family meal until closing time, then met with our family clan for breakfast only to find Carl had left after us and arrived back at 6am and still greets us all with a welcoming friendly smile).
The food here has something for everyone, all the favs like lasagne, fish n chips (which I highly recommend btw), and curries. The portions are generous and staff will do their best to accommodate any idiosyncrasies your taste buds desire! Allergen status is always checked at the start of every visit. There are amazing value meals and daily specials as well as a delicious Sunday carvery. Breakfast is a mammoth feast at Brewers Fayre Barry Island. It is one you really need to experience because for a mere £10.99 you can gorge your way into a food coma any day of the week. With 2 kids up to 16 eating free with each paying adult I can't imagine finding a better way to start your morning anywhere in South Wales. One of the greatest things about Brewers Fayre Barry is its willingness to cater for everybody's needs. It can be a lively experience with kids bouncing in on their way back from a day of fun on the island, but if you are seeking a more peaceful and calming culinary experience then they have a quiet adults only area where you will enjoy all the same service and care that you get in the main area, just without the youthful exuberance that under 18 year old can bring 😆. There is a large seating area outside that has numerous doggy water bowls and for those of you who, like myself, have a service animal (I have a dog who I pop in a doggy pram) they are of course welcomed along with their fur mammas and papas. We (as a family that live nearby, as well as extended family in Ireland, Canada and the USA) always congregate here for family meals and events. It doesn't matter whether it is a birthday meal, a boxing day family gathering or breakfast after 'the night before!' Carl and his team ALWAYS provide us with impeccable service and dedicated staff that make sure everything we want and need is catered for. As I said several of us live close by and we have been coming here regularly for almost 10 years now and we have never ever, not even once had a bad experience or even a meal we have had to return. I simply cannot find fault with this place (or the amazing staff) and am so very lucky to have it right on my doorstep. But don't believe me, check it out for yourselves and I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
Top stars 🌟 thank you all and see you all again soon
There is also ample parking around the back and no longer a need to validate it so...
Read moreWe went here as it was raining and we were staying at the premier inn so didn't want to venture out, although wish we had. The place appeared to be understaffed. We waited to be sat for longer than we should have as there was noone around. Once sat we were told to order food at the bar so I'm not sure why we had to be waited to be sat. Once we decided what to eat, we joined the large queue to order food. Once at the front I asked for curry to be told there was no rice, so I asked for the spinach and ricotta lasagne to be told they don't have it. So I asked for sausage and mash to be told they only do that at lunch. It would have been easier to tell me what they do actually have. In the end I went for a child's meal deal as everything was fried or heavy on the menu. As part of the meal deal I asked for the strawberry dessert to be told there was no strawberries. It wasn't the young girls fault but it was annoying that as soon as they didn't have the first thing I wanted she could have told me then everything they didn't have. My husband had the trio of pies. We couldn't use our BLC as it was a Monday and the meals were on offer anyway which was fine but my issue with the menu is that is says meals from £7.99 on a Monday but then just has prices by it. So I thought why is that on a Monday, surely that's everyday. It doesn't make it clear that all the meals in a section are £7.99 on a Monday other than the trio of pies which is £9.99. Anyway order was put in. Around 30-35 mins later our food arrived. My kids spaghetti was insulting, I don't mind a small portion as it's better on my tummy but it had been shoved in a bowl and microwaved to death. The bottom was boiling but the top was freezing cold and it was all congealed. There is no way that should have come out and I wasn't going to eat it, no way I'd give it to a child. Needless to say I sent it back. I also ordered peas and got beans so back they went. Finally got a new spaghetti which wasn't so microwaved. It was cheap mushy mince so wasn't particularly pleasant. The best bit was the side of crudités I had and my water, my husband said his pies were nice but he had to throw his drink of coke as it was horrible. We then sat waiting for our dishes to be taken for another 20 minutes before I finally saw someone to ask for my pudding (part of the meal deal) and they took the dishes away. Service was not attentive but staff were pleasant enough. I can say I will...
Read moreDropped into Brewers Fayre today as a cheap stop off with our 18 month old after picking up a vehicle that was in a garage getting work done. First impressions initially weren't great, the lady that greeted us looked like she was having a bad day and wasn't overly happy or approachable. This did irk me slightly as it had taken two hours to drive from Newport to Barry due to incredibly bad traffic. However from that moment on, all other staff we came into contact with were very friendly and approachable. Nothing was too much trouble, with the rest of the service being akin to a more upmarket restaurant. There was quite a diverse demographic in the establishment at the time and with the Christmas music playing at a decent level it seemed to keep everyone happy and cheery. I felt the food took a little longer than I would have liked to be served, however in defence of the restaurant it probably wasn't that long, but when you have a toddler hungry and tired, everything feels like an eternity.
Once the food was brought out to us, they were decent portions, well cooked and very tasty. The portions were big enough for us to break up some of the food for our little one to nibble on whilst also ensuring we still had enough leftover for us. finally we finished off with a dessert which myself and my boy shared. Prior to leaving our boy was utilizing the space available after a lot of the customers had left. All staff members engaged with him and it truly made it feel like a proper family friendly pub/restaurant that you don't come across all too often anymore!
I'd happy pop in here for food again in future, great to see a good bunch of people enjoying their work and making it a pleasure to...
