Lovely place to visit, excellent drinks and toasted tea cakes at reasonable prices all good value. Pleasant team and the place is very clean. Would recommend and would definitely visit again, it's my coffee shop of choice when in Retford. UPDATE - we have been visiting here since it opened, when we first went and the few times after this the quality and portion of the food and drinks was excellent as was the service, however, the past 2 times we have visited the quality and quantity of the food has become poorer and less. Initially the toasted teacakes used to be 3 halves, now its only 2, however, the price has not been reduced to reflect this. This is the same with many of the dishes offered in a morning, today 18th May we visited again, met by a grumpy and abrupt member of staff, not seen her before, asked for the teacake to be toasted a little more as they are barely toasted, she replied the toaster can't do it more as it just burns, I said it toasted it better last time I was here and I don't want it untoasted. She huffed. The lattes were barely warm and the other meals which my son and husband had did not reflect the ones they had been given on previous visits thieir meal was the open breakfast sandwich with some barely cooked bacon and a couple of sausages and supposidly toasted bread this cost £6.95, not at all worth it. To be honest not sure I am going to return as the service from this new person (with alot of tattoos) is poor, the cost of the food is high, the quality and quantity dropping upon each visit, This used to be nice, think we will have to find somewhere else for our regular Saturday...
Read moreNice little cafe.food ok, however my granddaughter chose from the children's menu, a cheese and ham pannini, they said they had been busy so choice was very limited. There was no ham left, there's butcher's shop next door that sells lovely ham. My granddaughter was half way through when I asked her if her food was nice, she replied it's only bread nanny. I looked in her pannini, there was a slither of cheese on the edge ( wish id taken a pic) when the waitress arrived with our bill I had been charged for a cheese and ham pannini. I told her u have no ham! She returned after asking someone what to do and said, we make no money on the children's menu so we still charged for the ham. Seeing my granddaughters face I didn't want to get into a discussion about it so I just paid and left. I told my granddaughter, sometimes it's better to say nothing because I didn't want to upset her. I'll show what I think with my feet, and of course my review. Needless to say we won't be visiting again. There's plenty of lovely local cafes to eat in around here maybe the proprietor should bear...
Read moreUpdated post owner message receipt . Coffee & walnut cake - Buttercreme, unusually, not smooth but very .?..'bitty' ?! Some kind of granulate in it - As though the icing sugar hadn't been sifted before use. Nice reply from owner - saying this was down to crushed walnuts being used in the Buttercreme recipe. - which certainly would explain the lack on/in the cake & the texture - thank you. This texture did adversely affect the culinary experience for us. Cake itself didn't taste of coffee or walnut. Very dry consistency to the cake itself. A few hardened coffee beans on top though.
The Decaf coffee itself was very very ( too ) strong. Informed by the extremely pleasant & helpful staff that this was due to them using a double shots of decaf as it's decaf. Normal strength decaf coffee would be a one shot, I think Ask them for " one shot decaf." if you don't like an extremely strong taste. My partner does, but it was still far too strong for her.
Very accomodating & happy, efficient...
