It's been over a year since I last visited the café, so at the weekend I dropped in to pick up coffees and visit the park. I was keen to support the local business once again after the lockdowns. They also stock one of my favourite coffees - Easy Jose.
However, I was really disappointed to find that the staff were not wearing masks and there was poor (if any) ventilation. Whilst it's my understanding that staff do not have to wear face coverings, I didn't feel at all comfortable in a small and relatively enclosed café, being served in quite close contact to staff without masks. Every other place I've been, even just for takeaway in lockdown, face coverings are pretty much universal and I've come to expect it; after all, customers are asked to wear one, and I expect the same respect to be shown by staff for our health and wellbeing (as well as their own).
I complained to the manager and spoke to the owner by phone and was really saddened by her response - she was defensive and argumentative, and this only reinforced my view that this is not a place for me anymore.
If you're like me and want to be in a Covid-safe environment where staff take all measures possible (including face coverings), there are other places nearby. A short walk away, in the park, there is a café where all the staff wear masks at all times, and the doors and windows are wide open for safe ventilation. There's even a new outside, covered seated area.
And did I mention 60p (yes, 60p!) extra for a dash...
Read morePassing through and saw this little place. Popped in for a bacon butty and a wee and it’s made me genuinely sad that I don’t live around the corner so I could visit every week.
Staff (Sharon and Darcy) were so friendly even though we aren’t local. They had regulars (known by name) and clearly look after them making everyone feel special. Spending time chatting with an older gentleman.
It’s opposite the park and botanical gardens, I walked the dog before popping in. Really wished I lived closer to be able to come back get bits for a picnic and stroll in the parks. Dog friendly too!
Bacon butty - banging Takeaway brownie not yet eaten but smells divine. Service warm and friendly
And the best bit, evening guest chefs and wine!
Anyone have the number of an...
Read moreWe had only just arrived in Bath and walking towards the centre. By luck this was the first place we saw to recharge after a 160 mile drive. What a piece of fortune, great food and simply the best millionaires shortbread I've ever eaten. But mostly what was so impressive was the friendly owners. Nothing was too much trouble and lots of tips and interesting knowledge of how best to make the most of our stay in Bath. Helped made our stay in wonderful Bath. If we lived locally we would use this Cafe often.
The world would be a better place if we called all be this friendly to strangers. The jokes on the boards outside are also a nice touch :) When we return I will be back for...
