5A — Restaurant in Belfast

Went in on the 13th April, emailed them later on that day to give them an opportunity to respond, but they ignored the email. I went in between 12 and 1, saw it was busy, was expecting to wait. We gave our name, were told to wait outside and would be called in when a table was ready. We went outside and took the stool seats, there was roughly 15 people outside, it was loud. We wait for roughly ten minutes, other people that came after us are taken in, we think we hear our name being called, my sister goes inside to find out, she is told off for not coming in when they shouted her name multiple times, when that was not the case, no name was heard, no name was shouted. We wait a further five minutes, then are told our option is to sit at the stools at the window beside the exit. We are given menus, asked would we like a drink, we say no, as we want to study the menu. Then they seat two women beside us, who had come in after us, so theres no space, I can't use my left arm as I would be elbowing someone. We wait for someone to take our order. Then they take the order of the women beside us, who came in after us, we wait again, still no one appoaches us. So we leave as we are being ignored. I used to be a waiter, I know what it is like to be busy but I don't expect to be ignored time and time again. The staff could tell we were annoyed but rather than apologise and be nice to us, and want to help us, they decided...

I have been going to 5a for coffee for years but never ate in it until today. Sorry to say I was very unimpressed. I hate a table being cleaned by someone just sweeping the mess on to your chair, before you have even sat down then you have to clean the chair yourself. Also I ordered water. They brought a bottle with 2 used and very dirty glasses. This was a put off but thought ok its lunch time and it's an oversight. I asked the girl to replace them. She said OK, but never came back with any new glasses. Food came out and I was given dirty cutlery with food bits crusted on to the knife. I had those replaced. We had the chicken waffles and the granola. The waffles were absolutely swimming in maple syrup which was very sickening and inedible. Maybe I should have asked for it on the side but it was really far too much on the dish. My granola had a hair in it. I didn't complain, we just left. I was with my daughter so just felt that from the start it was a disaster. Was disappointing because we were really hungry and left it all. They lost me after the dirty glasses and cutlery....

I had the pleasure of dining at 5a Cafe in Stranmillis, and it was a truly delightful experience. I decided to try their Special Eggs on Sourdough, and I must say, it was a culinary masterpiece!

The dish was expertly prepared, with a perfect balance of acidity and fat that left my taste buds dancing with joy. The tangy notes from the sourdough bread harmonized beautifully with the richness of the eggs. It was a satisfying and wholesome meal that left me feeling restored and content.

The attention to detail and the thoughtful combination of flavors truly made this dish stand out. It's evident that the chefs at 5a Cafe take pride in their craft, as each bite was a delightful revelation.
