Really disappointed with the meal we had yesterday! Started dining at Lee Garden 15 years ago and everytime we were in Northern Ireland we would try to visit the restaurant once, even chose it to be the place to celebrate our family’s special occasions like my family reunion meal, my father in law’s 70th birthday and my boy’s 1st birthday. It has been a while since the last time I ordered from a la carte menu so not sure when they started making huge difference between western order and chinese order. It’s ok to have 2 menus, one in English and one in Chinese but I didn’t expect such a big difference when the food came out. The starter portions seem to be smaller than normal, especially we ordered salt and pepper/chilli ribs and what came out was not ribs, it’s was meat strips! We ordered duck but the duck was battered and deep fried. Peking chicken was battered too! Stir fried garlic pak choi ordered but it came with mixed vegetables, I think they put choi sum in there. I looked over the next table where chinese customers sit and the portions look decent. I was already so disappointed, and even more when the bill came out. Since when did the restaurant start charging for chinese tea? As soon as we sat down we were offered chinese tea and we topped up a few times thinking it’s free traditionally.
I don’t mind paying for the meal but would appreciate if it was made clear that even though the names of the dishes are the same across both menus, how they’re cooked or the presentation or the size would be different. I recommend the restaurant puts description next to every dish to avoid customer disappointment in the future. The bill was £143 including £13 surcharge for 5 adults and 1 toddler. If I had known of the change I mentioned above I would have not been so excited to come to be honest.
The staff is friendly enough especially the gentle man who was really nice to my boy, even gave him some chocolate. I hope Lee Garden takes this feedback (I’m not the only one) and makes necessary changes so that your new and old customers can enjoy the authenticity of the...
Read more06/09/24 Went here for lunch with my family and was immediately greeted with disrespect as soon as we stepped into the restaurant. Staff are extremely rude and unprofessional. We nicely asked if dim sum was still available at this hour (16:30) and the waitress replied blunty ‘yes but you have to order within fifteen minutes as the dim sum chef will be leaving then’ I didn’t think much of it, i was just struck by her tone towards us. Another waitress came out and gave us cutlery in which we all said thank you and smiled but got no response from her. I was also getting weird looks from other staffs. It made extremely uncomfortable & umwelcomned, therefore I decided to look up the name of this restaurant on Google Maps to look at the reviews, i was glad to see that i wasn’t the only one who felt this way about the staff here. I read a review regarding the dim sum and how a darker asian woman asked for it but was rushed to order quickly as it was close to 5pm and thats when dim sum is no longer served but shortly a group of white people came into the restaurant & ordered dim sum & were served and this was past 5pm. As a darker skinned Chinese asian I knew the reason for the impolite attitude immediately. I also have to agree with the other reviews that the place is not clean. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially if you are a darker skin asian, the staff here are all fairly pale and have a superiority complex. You are not better nor prettier than me just because you are paler than me ! Your attitude is absolutely disgraceful and you represent the asian community so negatively. It’s a challenge living in a predominantly white country already & on top of that being mistreated by ‘my people’ is a joke. I wish nothing but for this ‘white superiority’ in asian society to die but also for Lee Garden to hire better staff who are kind...
Read morePoor customer service (worse still, it was a service without a smile). As my wife and I entered on a Saturday evening we were greeted, actually NOT greeted, by a moody looking chap who seemed to be the highest ranked staff. I found it hilarious that I had to greet him first!! Ok, maybe he was tired, or maybe he just had a bad day, but no... ALL the service staff looked moody too!! Very unwelcoming, despite the time being only 5:15pm...
Discourteous staff aside, we find the food marginally ok, just not worthy enough for an honest praise. Decor was good though, but the ambience could've been better if it weren't for the moody faces that brought us our food.
Spent only about an hour in the restaurant. As we left, again, there weren't any greeting. There were only 3 tables with customers, including us, and I counted at least 4 waiters/waitresses... all oblivious to us leaving the restaurant.
In my 4 day trip to Belfast, trying out this restaurant was my only regret. Tried Sun Kee and Zen which were excellent.
The only good thing about this restaurant was that I didn't have to bother...
