I have been to six Arab countries - much like their hospitality, food is something that never fails to reach the highest levels in the Arab World. However, much like my ability with women, the contents of this restaurant were immensely disappointing.
Standing like statues, we waited at the front door for guidance that would never come - much like life, we needed to seize the initiative to ask the staff to do something. Then, as if we had to prove ourselves natives to a Belfast Winter, the wide-open door sent in the sort of cold that perhaps polar bears may enjoy, but unfortunately we were not polar bears. We had booked our food in advance, but it appeared they really wanted to make sure we knew, and asked us for our orders again - thankfully they didn't ask to pay again which is probably the best thing they did all night. The starter arrived after an hour and was laying empty on our table so long that we could have watched a feature film in the interim. All the while we could hear intermittent screaming and arguing from the kitchen above.
Finally, later than Godot, arrived the main course. My lamb tasted like the ash of the oven but it had been so long that I still devoured whatever I could get my hands on. Unfortunately the vegetables were of roughly the same texture as the plastic they came in and I wasn't sure if I was going to choke on them and stopped. Dryer than the Sahara, the staff eventually brought dips after most people had already finished. The miserable experience was felt equally among other tables. The main positive I can say about the experience is that it helped bring the table together to appreciate the good things we had that were completely unlike this restaurant. I cancelled desert since I was worried what new horror would emerge in the time I was waiting, and wasn't going to wait another hour or two anyway.
If the choice came between skipping dinner entirely and going to Nora's Torture Chamber, I recommend the former. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to wait and see if their food will not give me food poisoning. If you don't go, then you certainly...
Read moreNoras Palace is a Mediterranean restaurant that has previously impressed with its exceptional food and high-quality customer service. However, during my recent visit, I ordered the Lamb Mandi and experienced a significant decline in the quality of the food and service.
Upon ordering, I was informed that the dish would take 25-30 minutes to prepare. After leaving the restaurant and returning after the estimated time, I was met with an apologetic staff member who kindly offered a complimentary beverage. Unfortunately, another staff member who appeared to be in charge of the restaurant's upkeep was unprofessional and handled the situation poorly by aggressively suggesting that I cancel my order if I was unhappy with the wait time.
After waiting for over an hour, I finally received my order. However, I was disappointed to discover that the portion size of the rice was considerably smaller than previous visits, more saltier and the quality of the meat was substandard. These elements significantly impacted my dining experience and left me dissatisfied.
In summary, Noras Palace did not meet my expectations during my recent visit. While the restaurant has previously impressed with its high-quality customer service and exceptional food, the decline in the quality of the food and the unprofessional behavior of one staff member are significant concerns. Improvements in these areas would be necessary to ensure a positive dining experience for...
Read moreFound this wee restaurant tucked away in Amelia street by accident one Friday night as we were heading for the train home. The following weekend we brought 8 friends with us to give it a try. As it's not licensed we brought are own drink which was great (and cheaper). We found the staff great and very helpful as the food was totally new to all our taste buds. The restaurant serves Lebanese food and I think Greek too if I remember. I had the Egyptian sausage to start with and my partner had the lebenese sausage and they were delicious, mmm. As there was a large party of us I can't remember everything we had as we all tasted each others (but you can see the menu online) but what I can say is every single thing was gorgeous, well prepared and great value for money. So if you fancy something completely different and are willing to try something at Nora's Place then I would highly recommend this place. The premises are down the side of Brennan's Bar and are in my opinion not in a great eye catching position and that's why I haven't spotted this place before. I should keep my eyes open more often. The premises are also immaculate. I will definitely be back. So get yourselves down to this wee hidden gem and you will see for yourself that it was definitely worth your visit. Thank you staff and management for a great evening, you all made...
