Fair food. Inhospitable. Lacking atmosphere.
Ordered: Unagi and boiled rice, Green tea, and sushi train mochi.
Food: The unagi (eel) was well cooked, tender flesh and crispy skin. The overworked sauce was excessively sweet which took away from an otherwise lovely piece of fish. Said sauce invaded my rice too unfortunately so 90% of the grains had gone swimming in sickly sweet wickness. The rice that was unaffected was welcome relief from the assault. Mochi were not fresh, forgivable though had they been tasty. They remain unforgiven.
Staff: I walked in at random at 18:03, disposed towards Japanese as I am it seemed like a decent idea. Curse my affection for asian fish dishes though. Greeted abruptly. Question answered on the third attempt abruptly, without language issues. Waved toward the sushi bar with the abandon of a man who had clearly given up on our semi-tipping culture some while ago. Meal finished and greenish tea slurped I was launched upon by same gent who cleared the dishes quite impressively...at 18:18. 15mins!? Holy moly!!
I'd go again. If I was quite sure I wouldn't be in or near Yo. However, at this point, my preference in our province still lies with the Mama of...
Read moreI was very disappointed with the food at Sakura. The seafood udon noodle soup was made with frozen seafood. The tempura vegetables were badly cut, and subsequently undercooked.I had to request they NOT add MSG to the soups, as msg is added as standard to all noodle soups. I did not eat from the sushi train as the selection was limited, and again relied to heavily on processed, pre prepared seafood, such as crab sticks. This meal was more expensive than the same meal that I had in London in a Japenese restaurant a few days earlier, which used fresh ingredients and had great service.Even though this resturant appears to be a Japanese restaurant, it has a bigger Chinese food menu, and i think the methods used to prepare Chinese food to not translate to Japanese soups and sushi, which are typically more delicate flavours with less msg and fresh fish.Would be good if they immediately changed their soya sauce to a better quality brand.Go to Sakura if you want Chinese food. If you want Japanese food go to the Ginger Tree on Donegal Pass, which is authentic...
Read morePartner and I were always fans of Sakura. Great food and tasty sushi. However, we were in on valentine's night, our table was booked for 8pm. We were choosing our food, and needed an extra few minutes to decide our selection of sushi. This seemed to annoy our server and the waitress then rudely barked at us that did we know they were closing at 9? (This was at 8:08). The remainder of the meal, we had things being cleared from the table while we were still eating, furniture being moved around us and at one point, staff standing on chairs and tearing the valentine's decorations down.... Ourselves and another couple or 2 were still eating our meal... I have never been made to feel so unwelcome and rushed in a restaurant before. It completely ruined our night. I suggest not offering the 8pm booking, as it was clearly a massive inconvenience to the staff. Have also tried multiple times to contact the restaurant regarding this issue and have been ignored. We were frequent visitors but as a result of this treatment, highly likely we...
