My boojum honeymoon is over.... Love the taste and the speed of this food, but I've been getting boojum for years for me and my husband. It initially cost 11 or 12 quid for the 2 of us... but I was there this week and not much change out of a 20... elsewhere for that price; I can get us both a sit in meal with drinks and if "beat the clock" a steak each? To me their current prices put them in a restaurant category that they don't meet as a mainly takeaway setup, and at some point lose them a lot of loyal customers. I would suggest a set price for a bowl or a wrap with one scoop of everything the person wants e.g. one meat, one salsa, one from each type of salad and 1 guacamole. Guacamole is a particular pet peeve of my though, as I sometimes ask for double to get a decent portion, I could buy a whole avocado for about 20p more than the cost their scoop of guac, which I wouldn't mind if it weren't a roll of a dice to decide the amount you get which is sometimes tiny! That all aside (as those are higher level decisions I guess) the staff are always welcoming and helpful, and could teach others in the industry about delivering a...
Read moreI haven't written a Google review in years but unfortunately I felt I've had no option but to do so here. I used to love Boojum. It's certainly not Mexican food. But it's our very own Irish rip-off of Chipotle and that's what made it great. And the Botanic shop is the OG. I ate from it in the first week it opened.
Unfortunately in recent years standards have slipped badly. My most recent purchase has taken things to a new level. Prices are now extortionate, which you could live with if the quality remained high. But that is not the case. The beef is now tough, chewy and fatty - it is very very obvious that they've switched to something cheaper than before. The tomatoes used in the pico de gallo are unripe, hard, totally flavourless and have ruined which should be a very simple but very tasty salsa - again very obvious that a cheaper product is now being used. The rice is also now bland.
How they can justify such prices when they've switched out to lower quality ingredients baffles me. And because of that I've had to give Boojum one star. I'll be avoiding it in future. And...
Read moreTbh, it's probably one of the most overrated food places of all time.
The burritos are always nearly ice cold no matter what, and for some reason it appears that there's barely any flavour in anything. This place seems to overly rely on copious amounts of hot sauce to give the food flavour, as everything else seems barely seasoned.
The mexican rice is mexican in name only, and has basically no flavour. Generally most of the options lack in flavour and are very bland, it's basically Mexican food for people who don't like Mexican.
It's more akin to a Subway than anything actually Mexican.
I feel like if you've ever been to the USA or Mexico and had real Mexican food, this place is a 2/5 for food, but if you haven't maybe it's a 4. Also the music they play is awful and annoying, and the toilets are absolutely vile, truly disgusting. Highly doubt I'll be back as I've tried it 3 times now and I've decided it...
