Now what can i say about this so-called new fusion establishment other than ... AVOID unless you dont mind being over-charged for sub standard food
Now here's my verdict on this so-called influencer promoted eating venue. We've all seen them, not me but sadly my brother got duped into seeing these fake tik tok vids giving this place 10/10 so he coerced me into joining him, he even brainwashed his own daughter to frequent this place too. I felt gutted that another person had been dragged into all of this due to my brothers fixation with tik tok promotions - I dont think he realises that most of them and probably some of these 5* reviews are all sponsored in 1 form or another
We went to visit Dewok on a tuesday night a couple of hours before closing. So the place was as you'd expect bereft of any other patrons. That didnt bode well for the rest of our evening. Dont get me started on the table that felt more like a rocking horse or a bucking bronco.
Then the server came took our drinks order, and then we waited what felt an eternity. The drinks then arrived 3 Mojito's. The drinks did taste nice but it was basically soda with flavourings, nothing extra special bar the price tag associated with them. Later in the day my brother bought a £2 bottle of lemonade and that was a 10/10 experience for him for sure.
Finally the starters arrived first came some some soup aka chicken stock broth lol. Nice chicken stock but was it worth £5? Then the actual starters which were some chicken honey strips (3 only), dragon wings (3 again) and some chicken lollipops (4 of them omg could they truly afford to give us that 33% extra - i felt they must've made a mistake so I got my niece to sink it down her promptly). So £18 less in our wallet for approx 3 items each was it worth the money? NO in simple terms. The honey strips were the highlight, nicely cooked and nice battered coating. The dragon wings were mild at best and the sauce wasnt anything worthwhile, the chicken was well cooked though. Finally the Chicken lollipops were basically chicken pieces mashed into a ball then fried, at least it was edible unlike the mains which were about to come to our table ...
[since eating at Dewok we looked online and realised to our loss that we were short changed on the wings & strips as they serve 4 pieces but we only received 3 - yet paid for 4 pieces - so please be aware that this place does SCAM their customers]
Main meals - Chicken Katsu Curry (mild - how do you make a mild katsu curry it needs to be medium at least), and 2 of the Dewok Loaded Chow Mein.
Now where do I begin, the Katsu Curry, the chicken was nicely cooked & the batter was quite nice the curry however was mild and very weak at best. I am not sure if I should really describe the other main meal though but sadly I have to as I do not want others to experience such a nauseating sham of a meal. The meats all of them were so well done there wasn't any point even trying to enjoy the meal. Its fortunate I still have teeth but I am sure others who have dentures or are missing teeth would have been unable to chew & swallow what was on that plate. The beef was so over well done, the prawns were solid & the chicken was solid too. Fully loaded tough rubberised meats is what they should be calling it. And the noodles & sauce tasted more like some cheap Chinese takeaway meal. Due to the price of the meal & i was famished I gorged my way through the meats only did take me a while to chew on them though.
At the end of the night the bill came, after picking myself of the floor with the shock of just how much it was paid we were given our 3 mint chocolates. Probably 1 of the highlights of our night. On leaving the premises my brother constantly looked back with fawning eyes to see if any of the waiters or waitresses were going to wish us a good bye & come back again, but his puppy dog eyes were still not enough to get them to look up & wish us well and to ask us to come back again. We left never to return again. Very...
Read moreUpon arriving at this restaurant, I was initially impressed with the decor and was looking forward to eating here. Having said that we were severely let down by the service. The place wasn’t that busy and we ended up waiting an hour for our starters which comprised of lollipop chicken and some chicken wings. What frustrated me even more was that other tables were getting their food even though they had arrived after us. I did question this with the manager but he just said the food is on its way. As you can imagine we were ravenous and polished off the starters and then had to wait another 30 minutes for the main course. I opted for the peking duck with pancakes which tasted nothing like I have had before. The duck was over cooked and chewy and not shredded, the pancakes were tough and obviously out of a packet and they didn’t even serve it with any garnish as you would expect, just a few measly spring onions. If I wasn’t so hungry I would have sent it back. The chow mein I have to say was tasty and the portion size was decent. Due to the lack lustre service and prolonged delay in serving the food we did not enjoy our experience here. In total we were there for over 2 hours which is not acceptable and they even forgot one of our orders!! Needless to say I won’t be returning anytime soon.
UPDATE: Having seen further reviews I thought I would give this place another go and have to say my experience was much better. The place was not as busy as my previous visit and the food came out much quicker. This time I opted for the mixed chow mein and dynamite prawns which tasted great. I have therefore changed my review from two stars to four stars. Top Tip: Don’t go when...
Read moreI visited DeWok today, and it was my very first time trying Chinese food. I’ll admit I was a little reluctant at first because I wasn’t sure what the menu would be like, but it came highly recommended-and I’m so glad I went.
The food was amazing. I started with chicken dumplings, which were the very first dumplings I’ve ever tried, and they were absolutely delicious. The dipping sauce had a fiery kick to it-not for everyone, perhaps, but I really enjoyed it. We also had spring rolls, which were light, crispy, and very tasty.
For mains, the portion sizes were generous, and everything was full of flavor. On top of that, they offered a variety of mocktails, which were refreshing and beautifully made. One of the biggest highlights for me was that the entire menu was halal, which made the experience even better.
The atmosphere was lovely-calm, relaxed, and not too hectic, which might be down to visiting on a Sunday. The service was fantastic from start to finish. The staff were polite, welcoming, and attentive. We were seated right away, and our main waitress, Sabah, really stood out. She was so sweet, attentive, and professional-the way she spoke and handled everything was excellent, and she made the experience feel even more special.
Overall, my first visit to DeWok was fantastic. The food, service, and atmosphere all came together perfectly. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, and I’ll absolutely be...
