UPDATE - So I ring the pub as requested and speak to the manager that day who apologised and offered a meal on the house to which I politely declined stating I wouldn’t want that so I could repeat the poor service and food quality all over again. I’m then told the head manager Steve would call me the next day to try and bring the matter to a conclusion. Surprise surprise it’s been two weeks and still no one has contacted me. Clearly don’t care that much about customer satisfaction.
ORIGINAL POST - Firstly I want to start off by saying on previous visits, the last of which was before Christmas, I had never had a problem with staff or food and loved going here.
Went for a birthday meal with the family and our first experience on entering was being greeted by a member of staff who was absolutely miserable, rude and because I accidentally said the wrong time for the booking then immediately corrected myself he just stands there giving me a filthy look with an awkward 20 second pause. Once seated we ordered our drinks which took 20 minutes and there was only two at this point! A member of staff then tells my brother to take his hat off without any sort of explanation and when asked he replied “we don’t wear hats in here” then walks away. Now my brother has a medical condition which has caused him to loose a lot of his hair hence the hat which the waiter would of know had he actually finished the conversation instead of walking away. Before coming to this establishment we all looked at the menu on their site to help us decide what we wanted to eat and if we even wanted to go there. When seeing the menu in there we quickly realised it was a much reduced menu and most of the things we were going to order weren’t even on the menu given. If we had know this we wouldn’t of come! Lastly, the food. Well where to begin. The salads had absolutely no dressing or seasoning, the mashed potato tasted like microwave mash with no seasoning, gravy was unseasoned and watery and the pork belly was over cooked and chewy. One thing I noticed while there was that I didn’t recognise any of the staff from previous visits so I’m not sure if that’s the problem as the staff I had met before were all lovely and professional however none of the ones I met on my...
Read moreBeing seated and our welcome was really friendly and warm. Server was friendly and asked about our requirements such as allergies. Thats where it ended sadly. Our wine glasses were dirty with lipstick marks on the top and remains left glued to the inside. When we reported this there seemed to be urgency to change them however 10-15 mins later we were still waiting for the glasses. It took for us to prompt someone to come and give us new ones. When the wine eventually arrived due to the delay we weren’t asked to taste which we have been asked before on previous visits so a lack of consistency there. The food arrived and my wife had asked for the additional scallops with her linguine, it came without. After raising this to the server the server responded by telling us she forgot to tell us they were out of scallops but she would remove it from the bill at the end. Disappointing but we moved on quickly. No complaints with the food my wife had the prawn, crab & chirozo linguine which she said she loved, I had the fillet steak with peppercorn sauce and again this was nicely cooked and tasted great. Compliments to the chef. The bill arrived and no surprise, the additional scallops had not been removed from the bill. We didn’t raise this at first as we just thought, instead of leaving a tip based on the service we would just leave that within the bill, so we settled the bill. We were then told we had 5mins to drink up as the restaurant required the table. Now, I don’t mind that there are time limits on tables, most places do these days but when you have had issues I think a little grace wouldn’t go a miss especially when waiting for new glasses and the drink had eaten into a lot of time. Needless to say we then highlighted the issue with the bill to receive a refund and left no tip. Not a great experience, full of errors and a lack of care. It’s a shame as we have been here before and had some great food, service and nights hence the return visit but when your paying +£100 for a meal you expect a decent level of service. Food was great, front of house let it down completely and seemed over roared by an early Saturday evening. Visited...
Read moreI live 300 yards from the Green House so in theory it’s my local. I remember it well when it was the Halfway House and what a dump it was then. A proper old fashioned drinking mans pub. We were excited when it was refurbed and reopened as the Green House but have been bitterly disappointed ever since. I don’t have a Range Rover or Porsche to park outside so may be I’m not the type of customer the Green House want anyway. We use it occasionally when we want to walk to the pub as it’s close and my wife uses the restaurant from time to time because some of her friends do have range rovers and Porsches so she feels a bit more comfortable. She has eaten her way through the menu but it hasn’t been changed for maybe three or four years so she’s pretty bored with it by now. In fact she has emailed them her opinion but to no avail. However, it’s been refurbed again ! I went last night 14/11 with my wife, daughter and her boyfriend to test it out. Decor is nice and it’s certainly had a tasteful face lift. It was a Wednesday night and we spent a couple of hours there consuming over priced drinks in the atmosphere free environment of the bar. The restaurant was fairly busy but there were only four people in the bar other than us. There was a lovely open fire which we sat next to but it wasn’t lit. My daughter sat with her coat on for the duration as she was so cold and the lights above us were as bright as the flood lights at Villa Park. I was served by a strange looking member of staff who obviously hadn’t a clue what they were doing and my wife’s glass of expensive white wine was warm. When I complained they gladly threw some ice cubes in her glass. I fetched a menu so we could see what new culinary delights were on offer and surprise surprise it’s exactly the same as before. I’m sure the Green House will continue to make lots of money from its restaurant as the Range Rover folk will continue to spend their money there but if you’re looking for a nice pub to go and have a drink in the four oaks area...go somewhere else. At least if you eat there you will always know before hand...
