First visit here and defo the last. Didn’t get a warm welcome when we arrived. We sat down to order out food with high expectations after reading some of the good reviews although was a bit dubious after also reading the bad ones. Well where do I start- the chicken fried rice was bland, the chicken had no colour or taste, looked like it had been boiled not fried and the rice was stodgy. The fried chicken dumplings tasted like sage and onion stuffing with no chicken to be seen. The chilli chicken was literally a dried chicken burger with peppers and onions, the chilli chips wasn’t too bad but for over £6 there was literally 10 chips on a plate. So I ordered a chicken chow mein and by the time they came to clear the table I still had no meal, the waitress tried to blame me and say I never ordered this however I was the first to order. We asked for curry sauce and they said this is something that is made specially if orders and cost £5 and tasted like a fruit sauce nothing oriental about it and defo not curry sauce. They seem to concentrate on style on the plating rather than quality and taste of the food. The waitress had the audacity to say I did not order any food so what am I going to do, sit and watch 3 other people eat, which luckily they didn’t due to the poor quality and taste. I asked to speak to the manager, didn’t even get an apology and was having a dispute with the waitress in front of us to which we had to point out how unprofessional this was. My partner said it should be called Henry wrong lol. The cheek of it was all they took off the bill we The £5.70 service charge after it was their mistake and their tasteless food. Read moreCalled to book a reservation for 1pm and said that they are full and I would need a card payment deposit. I said that it didn't say anything about a deposit when confirmation text was sent to me,so they accepted my reservation,but then said that once we get there the kitchen will close at 2pm, they weren't wrong at all,they rushed us to order,didn't ask if we wanted any drinks for about 25 minutes and on top of that when we basically finished the food ,they came took the plates and started taking the tablecloth off the table while we were still drinking. The lady waitress was lovely presentable and polite but the manager was very rude,didn't acknowledge us in any means possible ,and to top it off,the restaurant only had one more table dining at the time,the whole restaurant was empty. I asked to bring the starters first until 2 other guests arrive in 5 minutes time and was declined and brought out all the starters and main courses together and it was only 1.20pm now ,so the kitchen had another 40 minutes for us. We paid for a taxi to harborne and arranged childcare for our daughter and this was our first night out together since the birth of our daughter. I have been to Henry wong many times before the latest time was April 2022 all prior times the service has been great and the food fabulous. I am extremely disappointed the business didn’t call us and notify us in advance of the power shortage. They had my email and mobile and could have called in advance to save me paying the taxi fayre into Birmingham. Our table was booked for 8:15pm and after we were turned away we couldn’t find another restaurant in harborne as they were all fully booked. We are very disappointed that you didn’t mention the power shortage on your social media pages as a mitigation, we loved your restaurant and food was exceptional!
