Heard a lot through the Internet about this place. So we decided to go there for brunch on our wedding anniversary. The place itself is nice. But the lady behind the counter who took our order seemed to be very unfriendly. We ordered the waffles with bacon and maple syrup another waffles with fresh fruits and maple syrup. Eggs benedict and a kids mac and cheese. We also ordered a gingerbread latte and an amaretto latte. A simple request to put the maple syrup for one of the waffles wasnt understood properly and a change of order from a black americano to a gingerbread latte (done instantly with apologies before it was put through the till) didn't go down well. The person who bought the drinks to the table spilled some of my coffee and offered to make another one but I didn't want her to make another one. She got a bit of cloth and cleaned and apologised again. This is not an issue and can happen however I went to find napkins from next table to clean up the spillage properly. It was our first time here so we were not sure how they work as in where the napkins etc were. Then someone came to our table to clarify how we wanted the waffles. Then the food were served almost immediately but we noticed that the bacon waffle had no maple syrup and so we had to ask for it. All in all food was OK and not great. The bacon waffle were over done and after a while we couldn't eat it all. The poached eggs were a bit overdone too in my opinion. In the macaroni and cheese the pasta was way overcooked and it had a lot of white sauce in it. The fruit waffle was good and the coffee were too. The toilets had a very bad foul smell and there was no hand soap available. No welcome or goodbye was offered at any point. Overall didn't understand the hype about this place unless you were a vegetarian or perhaps a vegan for the choices available on the menu for them. The garden area outside looked like a nice setting for summer. Brunch for two adults and a child cost us over £28 but on this occasion we felt that we didn't receive value or the service for that amount of money.

The staff are lovely here and the ambience of the place is fabulous. However, I thought that the vegan breakfast I ordered was really poor value for what I paid - I ordered a black coffee, an extra slice of toast and a vegan brekkie which came to nearly £17 including a 10% tip - which I gave at the time of ordering before I had seen the food. The breakfast was supposed to include ‘wilted spinach’ but actually had a tiny handful of fresh spinach leaves. There was a half, a bordering on cherry-sized, tomato, and a very small amount of mushrooms. Tomatoes and mushrooms are relatively cheap ingredients so I don’t understand why they are so stingy with the portions. On the plus side the vegan sausages were very nice, as were the hash browns. The coffee was great. Looking at other customers’ plates I suspect that the meat eaters get better value for money. I enjoyed the experience but it would be nice if somewhere in South Birmingham could provide a quality English breakfast for plant-based eaters.

An excellent example of a bohemian cafe tucked away down an alley way the back of an small garden centre shop. This is the best bohemian cafe I’ve visited in Birmingham. Kitchen Garden Cafe offer a superlative choice of brunch menu items to suit the tastes of veggies, vegans and omnivores. On Sunday Sunday roast lunch options are served from 12pm: including beef and nut roast. Loads of space, an eclectic array of furniture to seat your restful selves in a relaxed atmosphere. Kitchen Garden Cafe caters for all including families. With many switched on serving staff members available your orders will arrive in a respectful time frame. There is a garden centre shop nearby, and an outdoor area. Lots of quirk to keep the senses engaged.

We chose KGC for our wedding as we loved the fact they were so flexible with their approach to events, as well as wanting to choose a local business. We’d seen the 5-star reviews, and were excited when we met with Lana back in December, as she was keen to really personalise the day for us. However, multiple changes in wedding planner (we had 5 in total) meant details of the day became confused and not properly communicated when passed on. The primary problem came when we discovered last minute that our final wedding planner, Shanice, wouldn’t be there on the day. As a result, there were a number of errors made on the day which resulted in us and our guests needing to step in and help. As we later discovered, our wedding planner hadn’t adequately provided the team on duty with the correct information. Having said all of this, Nadia and her team worked so hard to give us the best day, and we really did have a lovely time. The slip-ups were a disappointment, but we are still glad we chose KGC for our wedding. We met with Tracey and her team to discuss the issues afterwards, and they did everything they could to put it right. They were incredibly apologetic, and assured us this doesn’t normally happen. We hope in providing this review that we don’t put people off from planning a wedding here, as it is a lovely local venue that, ultimately, gave us the party we had hoped for. However, we wanted to share our experience in the hope it ensures this was simply a...

We went today as a weekend treat, family of four. We ordered 2 adult meals and 2 kids plus drinks totalling almost £60. They had ran out of fish fingers for one of the kids so they received jacket potato and beans. These were served on a side plate, potato's were over microwaved and barely any beans. At £6.50 each, they were unacceptable. Kids not too fussy and ate most. As for the adult meals, we ordered a cottage pie with green beans and chicken skewers with chilli beans. Before ordering I had asked if they cottage pie was meat as it didn't state on the board. The young girl behind the counter said it was, what I recieved was a very bland vegetarian option that tasted weird and burnt. I only managed to eat a quarter of it. This had arrived by the time the kids had nearly eaten all of theirs. The chicken skewers never arrived at all and my partner ended up eating my leftover bland pie. We there for an hour in total, it wasn't particularly busy and the staff were friendly if a little bit clueless. We got a refund for the missing meal, which they had no explanation for. I used to enjoy going here but I don't think I'll return with the way things are. The 0 food standards hygiene rating obviously hasn't been tackled and the chef should probably find a new job doing...
