When I pick my daughter up from school, I usually go to Kings Heath Park to have a walk round. The Park is ideal for dog walkers, serious power walkers, joggers and cyclists. The footpaths 2 km length allows for a good workout with the guarantee of fresh air. Concerning myself, I found that one can amble freely at a gentle pace in these beautiful and calm surrounds.
Kings Heath Park is also blessed with a number of amenities for all age groups such as a children's playground (which admittedly needs upgrading), a bowls lawn, basketball court / tennis court etc. The park is very large, so it is also possible to play football, have picnics etc. There is also a horticultural centre with a shop to purchase plants and flowers. Adjoining this area is a delightful traditional Victorian tea room, where one can leisurely enjoy a cup of tea with a slice of cake or sandwich. Other refreshments are also available.
Aesthetically, the park is beautiful and has a varied environment. Some areas have a lot of shrubs and flower beds, while the largest space is taken up an open expanse of well-tended green grass. Lots of benches scattered around the park are another useful addition. There’s also a pond area where one can sit down and relax.
The park is clean and well maintained – it’s not uncommon to see grounds men and gardeners tending to the flowers and shrubs as well as ensuring there is no litter. There’s plenty of bins around, so it is easy to dispose of rubbish.
I enjoy my frequent visits to the park, and my regular walks help me to de-stress, relax and re-energise myself. I’m thankful for it’s proximity to my daughter’s school and it’s certainly a Godsend for the local denizens and residents of...
Read moreunfortunately I have to give a bad review due to some of the people that come here. the park itself is lovely, however i can’t bring myself to ever come back here after i was assaulted in this park in september 2022 at around 9am after 3 teenagers the same age as me at the time pretended to be friendly to me then tried to rob me and as i am autistic i did not want them to take my headphones and i begged for them back however they pretended that they did not take them even when i asked 2 older people passing by for help they did not do anything and walked off and eventually one of them got mad and started punching me whilst the other 2 joined in and even tried to pull my trousers down. they ended up breaking my nose and smashing my headphones on the floor proving that they obviously did take them and then proceeded to laugh at my nose bleeding everywhere and left me on the floor crying. i had to get up and walk by myself to ask for help whist barely being able to talk properly because i was still profusely crying and the police did come and take me home and they were very sympathetic for me. my nose has been slightly deformed because i was too frightened for surgery however is fine otherwise. good news is one of the 3 got into legal trouble after assaulting someone else on kings heath high street not long after. after all this happened i became really introverted and depressed and have struggled socially since, no longer depressed thankfully, still introverted, but much happier now. i am writing this to spread awareness of these kinds of people in public spaces like the park. there can (and have been) be a lot of bullies or suspicious people lurking around here, and other places such as...
Read moreA clean park with two playgrounds:the smaller one with two baby swings, a see-saw and a slide that is tricky for a toddler to negotiate due to the frame. The larger one also has baby swings, a small slide and activity climbing frame. For the older kids, a zipwire-type swing set on a hill, several ordinary swings, a climbing frame with slide, rope web, monkey bars and fireman's pole, a reclining seesaw and a wobbly aeroplane. The park always has visitors, whatever the weather. There are several paths around the park itself, and it's pleasant 2km to walk around. Plenty of dogwalking, but the owners are pretty good at acting responsibly and picking up after their canine charges. There's a nice little stream with ducks but be careful with little ones and the barriers are quite low in places. The tea shop is cosy but costly and there are benches outside for the nicer weather. The garden centre I've only managed a fleeting visit, but there's plenty of greenery and interesting animals and birds...
