Review of The Shakespeare

The Shakespeare is truly an exceptional place that never fails to impress. From the moment you step inside, the astonishing decor creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The outdoor seating area is beautifully set up, making it a fantastic spot to relax. I particularly love the convenience of ordering drinks online and having them delivered straight to your table—it's a brilliant touch.

The drink selection is impressive, offering a vast array of options that are sure to please any palate. We find ourselves returning once, twice, sometimes even three times a week. The food is another highlight—each dish is presented with care and tastes absolutely superb. It's real value for money, and everything we've tried has been simply gorgeous. A special shout-out to Big John in the kitchen, who occasionally comes out to serve guests; he’s a polite gentleman with top-notch culinary skills.

The staff at The Shakespeare are outstanding. Lorna, who often serves us, always greets us with a smile and takes the time to chat, which my 76-year-old mother really appreciates. The management team is equally fantastic, always up for a laugh and genuinely attentive to customers. Every staff member we've met has been brilliant, contributing to the friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Overall, if you're looking for a place with superb food, a fantastic drink selection, and a welcoming vibe where you can unwind and enjoy yourself, The Shakespeare is definitely the place to be. It has quickly become one of my favourite spots, and I can’t recommend it...

Top-Notch Pub I recently visited the Shakespeare Inn in Birmingham, and it’s hands down one of the best pub experiences I’ve had. From the moment I walked in, the traditional, cozy atmosphere made me feel right at home. But what truly made the experience special were the fantastic staff—genuinely warm, friendly, and always happy to help. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect.

The menu offers a fantastic selection of classic pub dishes with a twist. I opted for the steak and ale pie, and it was absolutely delicious—the pastry was perfectly flaky, and the filling was rich and flavorful. My companion had the fish and chips, and it was spot-on: crispy batter, fresh fish, and generous portions. The food is hearty, satisfying, and clearly made with care. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!

As for the beer selection, it’s impressive. They have a wide range of local ales and craft beers, as well as all the classic pub favorites. I tried a couple of their cask ales, and each one was well-kept and full of character. It’s clear they take their beer seriously, and the staff were happy to recommend brews based on our preferences.

Whether you’re looking for a delicious meal, a perfectly poured pint, or just an enjoyable evening in a welcoming setting, the Shakespeare Inn is the place to be. With amazing food, great beer, and a wonderful team of staff who make you feel like part of the family, it’s an absolute gem in Birmingham.

Highly recommended for both locals...

I visited this place for the first time on Saturday, 29/06/2024, with some friends. We liked the location and the furniture, and we decided to sit outside. An older gentleman, probably the manager, came to our table to deliver a pint we had ordered and asked for an ID. I'm 26 and likely look older, so I was surprised. When I looked at him for options as I didn't have my ID on me, he responded rudely, leaving a bitter impression.

I went inside to seek help from other waiters after asking people sitting nearby about the ID rule, which apparently was only applied to us. The same older gentleman asked for my ID again. Smiling, I asked if I had a teenage face, and he repeated his request with a serious expression. My friends and I were visibly frustrated by the situation. Then, the older gentleman laughed and said it was all a joke. He walked away and spoke to a colleague with a disgruntled look. I understood what he said but won’t share it here. Free advice to him (hope you won't take that as a joke): Remember, money is the same no matter who spends it. Professionalism is essential when someone pays for it. Save the grumbling and...

Update(Reply to The Shakespeare, Summer Row): The only disappointing aspect of the visit was that the Sunday menu have been removed. If it's restored, I'll happily give a 5 star. This is, of course, the decision of the staff and management and I'll completely understand if it's not possible due to operational reasons. I will, nonetheless, continue to patronise The Shakespeare as it's the nearest pub to my student dorm, and also the most affordable. Additionally, the quality of food (those on the regular menu) and drinks, as well as the quality of service from the staff, continues to be excellent.

Super welcoming barmaid made us visitors feel at ease straight away and invited us to sit in the shady beer garden where we took our lovely refreshing drinks to peruse the food menu, ordering food was quick and simple and when the food arrived it was hot and very tasty. Our visit was only spoilt by a stag party meeting up in the beer garden and becoming super rowdy. We soon ate up and left after that otherwise we would have ordered desserts and more drinks as our hotel was right next door.

I had great experience at Shakespeare Inn. I just randomly popped into this place to see cricket match score and ended up spending good time. Thanks to the man serving at bar who suggested jubel beer. I tried it for the first time but it was great suggestion. The flixbus bus stop is just opposite to this place Plenty of sitting & drinking space inside, outside the inn, two toilets for separate gender, multiple tv screens displaying current sporting events
