We had breakfast here daily due to having dogs with us we could not go to the other restaurant, staff were brilliant, food was fantastic, only down side is its used as an office (3 out of the 4 mornings we stayed) so we listened to two different job interviews going on at the same time - was interesting 😊 and other business dealings as well as staff being told what to do. Amazingly on Saturday morning there was no sign of a laptop or office use. The staff each morning were bright and cheery and always made a fuss of our two boys, one morning they where treated to a sausage each. We also dined here some evenings, even had room service, it was fantastic each time. Had a few drinks in the outdoor area which was lovely too

Found The Courtyard on Google for lunch as I was passing through on the way further south. A very yummy stop off - within the Bodmin Jail entrance but you don't have to have tickets to enter the restaurant. Food is delicious, I had the club sandwich and there was a mayo type sauce on it which made it amazing! Slightly higher price range I imagine if you are a large group or just looking for a quick bite but if you are a fan of good food and not fussed about the cost then definitely the place to stop in Bodmin. Had a lovely outside terrace with some shady and sunny bits with a more formal inside. Staff were very nice and had clearly been trained to give excellent customer service above and beyond the usual.

Lovely clean restaurant, great staff, delicious food, BUT too many dogs! They were throughout the restaurant. You go to the trouble of asking about allergies, so you say no, thinking you mean food allergies, no one asked about my allergy to dogs! They were sat every side of me, if that’s not bad enough, one of them starts barking! Come on why are they allowed into restaurants, I fully appreciate that support dogs need to be there but none of the 4 dogs in this restaurant on Saturday night needed to be there. If they need to be in a restaurant then out them in one area or ask other diners about how they feel about being sat next to a dog! It spoilt our night!

A confusing experience. This restaurant seems to be half way through changing to ‘The Jolly Hangman’ so we arrived to a set menu style setup, completely different from the restaurant we thought we’d booked a few weeks ago.

Starters were excellent, though portion sizes varied massively. The crab was delicious, eaten in two bites. Arancini balls were also lovely, though a much bigger dish with four balls. Main dishes come with no sides, so you must add them yourself at £5 a pop. I paid £5 for a tea cup of chips, which was lucky as my main dish was so disappointing, at least I had something to eat. Avoid the pumpkin dish, though I’m told the beef was very good.

Our first experience with a member of staff was so odd, we were all left cringing. He kept trying to make jokes that nobody understood, then would just wait in awkward silence. As the menu only listed ‘£50 for 3 courses’ I asked if we could have 2 courses instead and what the price would be. The response “You can have four courses for twice the price.” Our server kept repeating this every time I asked the question. Eventually he said he didn’t know the price for two courses, but it was probably £40ish. When I asked a question about a dish on the menu, he simply said “I don’t know”, without offering to find out - which I then asked if he could do. Drinks left on our bill which we ordered but we’re then out of stock. A different member of staff took over our table, who was much much better.

There seemed to be half an attempt at fine dining, with the portion sizes, presentation and pricing. But the service, tables and menus riddled with grammatical errors made it all a bit scrappy. It also seems so odd that all food is brought through the main entrance door from the kitchen upstairs, so that every time food arrives a gust of cold wind follows.

I...

We went for our sons birthday meal I really wish we would have chosen another restaurant! Absolutely awful service from the staff they was more interested in talking to each other and asking the Cornish guests if they needed anything drinks etc. we had to wait 15 minutes for our one drink they asked us if we wanted, all our food come out at different times it was a family party of 5 so not a huge table. We live in Bodmin and I wanted to take our son and my parents to a nice restaurant for my sons 19th birthday sadly I was left feeling really dismissed and forgotten as was my family. I haven’t had this sort of service in any other restaurant I have eaten in in the surrounding areas or villages. My husband mentioned how we was left feeling to the staff member when we had to ask for our bill as all the staff walked straight past our table multiple times and we got ignored. And her response was just sorry but said with no emotion at all! One of the staff stood behind the bar filling up the mayonnaise in pots and some spilt on the side of the dish she wiped it with her finger then licked her finger and continued to fill up pots using her finger to wipe the dishes my husband was speechless. Food was ok when it all arrived. But sadly service was awful. We didn’t even get asked if we wanted dessert after they cleared the plates. It was our sons birthday! It’s a shame as it’s a lovely looking venue was really looking forward to eating with my family on this special occasion and was left deeply disappointed. Summary really is if you want to be ignored and get one drink but have to ask staff for any assistance as they don’t acknowledge you at all. We paid for our bill which was over two hundred pound and left. I wouldn’t recommend going here at all and I won’t...

Sadly can’t give 0 stars, 1 is being generous! Also spent nothing - but obviously google has assumed I’ve spent money!

Popped into this restaurant to get a quick bite after our visit around the jail.

Wanted to sit inside, so outside waiter told us to head in and one of the indoor waiters will seat us, which they did. Menus were brought over along with colouring for the children (initially I thought great!) and then everything went south very quickly.

We then waited 15-20 minutes for someone to even attempt to take our order, sadly no one came. Unfortunately with young children there is only so much “waiting” we can do, so we gathered ourselves together and left swiftly.

Staff and “managers” simply stood around, no one appeared busy or interested in actually working, there were a few tables with other people who also appeared to be just “waiting”.

On leaving no staff stopped us to ask if everything was ok, once outside I did tell the outside waiter that perhaps he needed to “talk” with his inside team about their “service” but I doubt this would have happened.

By all means a lovely venue, but as for service, there...
