Brilliant that we have a new local cinema. Place is easy to find, great parking. The manager was ok, pleasant enough but eating a greasy burger behind the counter in full view of customers is pretty gross, then coughing and spluttering....nasty! The film was listed as starting at 7.35pm. We arrived around 7.10, paid and bought some goodies. We checked our tickets and saw we needed to be in screen 3 so we went upstairs and into screen 3. Bit surprised to see it was in darkness and a film was showing. We thought it was trailers so sat down. After a couple of minutes it clearly wasnāt a trailer so we left. We opened the door to screen 1 and saw it clearly wasnāt correct either. So we went back down and tried to clear up what was wrong. The young guy that we saw was rude and ignorant. He had no customer service skills at all. He confirmed it was screen 3 but it wasnāt ready yet and the previous film was still plying (really.) So I asked how we were supposed to know this? No one checked are tickets or stopped us. He rudely pointed to two small signs to the SIDE of the entrance to the stairs saying screens 1 & 3 were unavailable. We never saw them. Put them IN the entrance that will stop people going up there! So we had to wait.........thereās no place to wait which was annoying. When we finally got in the screen room was very pleasant if a bit too warm. Seats were comfy with loads of leg room. Will definitely go again as itās our closest cinema but will turn up two minutes before time! Please sort your staff...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLocal cinema showing live feeds of Covent Garden opera, ballet, National Theatre and London West End productions - brilliant!
But I'm reducing my star rating to four because of the sound quality in the live feeds from Covent Garden.
I saw The Barber of Seville earlier in the season and it was LOUD! But sound quality varied during the evening so perhaps they were trying to tweak it. Turandot was lovely. The Marriage of Figaro last night was so loud that at times the speakers couldn't cope and the sound was distorted. And the balance was off - at times the orchestra was drowning the singers out. I don't know whether this is something the cinema can do anything about, or whether it's due to badly placed microphones in the theatre.
It was so bad that when Il Trovatore comes around later in the season I will go to the Vue cinema in Plymouth - bigger cinema so maybe their sound system will be better able to cope?
I don't want to be negative - I think this cinema does a great job - all the five star reviews are correct, but their sound system is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOne particular staff member has been rude to me on several occasions. My 15 Yr old went to see a 15 rated film, was refused entry after buying ticket and snacks (well done merlin, got your money first), we don't live in the area. He and his friend had to wait in car park for 2 hrs as I was watching another film. Staff were asked to inform me by my son and I would have left the cinema and taken them elsewhere but staff refused.
In response to your reply, we were the only people in the auditorium, would have been quite easy to pick us out. I appreciate your policy and understand completely but maybe don't accept money for tickets first? We also requested refund, was refused but offered tickets to another film. Not acceptable. But thankyou for...
