This rating is for the increased pricing and poor attitude of staff, the food itself is great.
I've held back on leaving a review but the recent price increases and customer service has driven me to post this.
Been going here for years even before the new building got built, I've always thought the pasties were a reasonable price but they have shot up over the years, soup and a roll used to cost around £1.40 now its over £2, pasties are the same, Ham or Turkey salad barms have gone up also, there is always a massive queue coming out of the doors at peak times so they are just playing on this with greed!, sure things have gone up but not that much (funny how other bakery outlets nearby haven't put their prices up this much)
Most of the staff are miserable, like it's almost too much work to serve customers, pre made salad barms are in the fridge but they never make enough of say Ham or Turkey so you have to ask for one to be made only to be questioned that there is some in the fridge, when you tell the sales person theres not it's like you've just asked them to clean your toilet or something as its just a big problem, even asking for something with no tomato is a big deal, you are made to feel like you shouldn't be asking for a sandwich, one of the women with dark hair actually gives you a dirty look when you ask her, theres no smile with her ever.
Since the recent price hike on many things I've now refused to give them my custom, I've found a local bakery that makes the same fresh ham salad barms much cheaper and If I want soup and a roll I can pay effectively 50p from Aldi for a tin of soup and a roll and warm it up myself.
No doubt someone will come back with cost of living supply prices but its on everything so just down...
Read moreRecently moved from the tiny/cramped shop in front of their factory, to a brand-new purpose-built retail experience which is much more pleasant. Star of the show are their amazing pasties. Varies types are available, personally I find the meat-and-potato pasties are the perfect balance of soft pastry, potatoes that almost fall apart when you bite in to them, and very lightly peppered meat that has the distinctive Carrs flavour. Buy one hot to eat whilst you wait... better still, buy two as one is never enough... and take a pack of frozen pasties home with you for later! Other drinks, cakes, and hot/frozen items also available. They can also cater to large events if you want to share the experience with friends, family, colleagues. Editing previous review from years ago in light of multiple recent price increases. No doubt they still taste great, but at more than double the price of similarly sized products from other nearby outlets... they become a special-treat rather than something affordable on a regular basis. Had to put back the box of frozen pasties after...
Read moreOn a rare trip through Bolton, I saw the sign and thought I'd pop in for a look. I bought 2 sausage rolls, a steak pasty, a meat & potato pasty, a slice of Victoria Sandwich cake and some peppermint slices. It smelled so good in there I went a bit mad. We ate the sausage rolls in the car outside. 😋 They were piping hot, fantastic flavour, great pastry. HANDS DOWN, far better than Greggs. We ate the pasties the next day (warmed in the oven) and shared the Victoria Sandwich cake. The pasties were full of filling, plenty of meat (not just gravy), pastry again was perfect. These were the best pasties we've had in a long time. The cake tasted like my homemade cake and couldn't taste any preservative rubbish in it at all. Proper cake with proper jam and proper buttercream. We got through the last of the peppermint slices yesterday, absolutely delicious treat in the evening with a cup of tea. Everytime I travel north I'll stop in at the Middlebrook store and grab a treat. Highly recommended, great quality and deliciously...
