We have now visited this Toby Carvery several times and it is now our favourite carvery to visit, even though a little out of our way. We make the journey as we love it here. Okay, the food on offer is your standard carvery offering, and I cannot lie, there has been the very odd time that the meat has been a little dry and the veg a touch dry and lifeless, but this is the same as any other carvery, it all depends on how long it has been under the heat lamps on the pass. Saying that though, most times that we have been here the food has been good, with the meat (especially turkey) nice, moist and flavourful. There is also a small menu available if you do not fancy carvery, but I have not had anything off that menu, so I cannot comment. The desserts available are nice though and the chocolate fudge cakes always goes down well!! As is the norm with other places, there is a refillable soft drinks option, which goes down a treat and there is a good selection of beers and wines on offer. Nothing ground breaking or totally different, but a good, decent selection all the same. The staff here have always been very polite, professional and attentive. There has only been one occasion that we have experienced where a drinks order was never taken or delivered, but when we raised this issue, it was acted on quickly and resolved straight away, so no complaints. The thing that draws us to this place though is the building, it is stunning! I believe it was a former Gentleman's club that was built in the late 19th century, though I may be wrong about the Gentleman's club thing. It is one of those places that when you are inside you think, "if only these walls could talk!" It has such a nice, relaxing feel to the place, so you can sit and eat your carvery, enjoy a drink and inspect the beautiful interior with all of it's original features. If you are looking for a good roast dinner to enjoy, I'd definitely recommend this place, 100%.

Food was good but nothing special for a carvery. The waitress was very friendly and on the ball with cleaning up plates, asking for desert orders and the bill. Very efficient. The atmosphere was weird, it is a nice looking old estate house. All the rooms were used as seating areas, so there were not many tables in each room. The other 2 tables in the room were eating in silence too, this meant the atmosphere did not feel like a restaurant and when we stopped talking it was weirdly silent. Which is not really a bad point as some people might enjoy it, but I do prefer some background noise so I don't feel like I'm disturbing people by talking. Something I did not like was the state of the carvery area. There were roast potatoes all around the meat, and a lot of the veg splatted around each of the dishes. It just looked like it hadn't been cleaned all day. I also stood for 8mins waiting for the carvery chef to come out and cut the meat. Took the waitress two times shouting that carvery chef is needed before someone came. The chef was polite and friendly though. Overall I did enjoy my experience though.

Lots of potential, let down by the service. I have to be honest my expectations of a carvery is not very high but, When it comes to hospitality from the service industry I do expect a lot more. The building is lovely and has some character that has not yet been exploited. Decor is moderate, atmosphere is moderate to cold. I was happy to find a vegan option on the menu. Well done its earned you an extra star. I had the mushroom and ale pie which was nice. My partner and daughter had traditional carvery. The food was average with plenty of choice for the traditional Carvery eater. The biggest issue here was service. We selected a table and got seated. We was aproched by a member of staff that asked if we woukd like drinks. We opted for non alcoholic drink, unlimited refill from the self service machine. We looked at the menu and was never attended to again. After 20 minutes my partner seeked out a member of the kitchen staff and asked how we order food of the menu. The member of the kitchen staff she approached was by far the most helpful and courtiouse member of staff in the building, infact he was the only one and he was the only. He should be front of house staff. I asked how to order vegan food of the menu and he arranged it. explaind what was and wasn't vegan from the self service and said he would inform the kitchen staff who was serving advise me at the serving counter. What an outstanding effort. I waited a good 15 minutes for my vegan pie and it was only because the same member of staff from the kitchen passed by and bothered to ask if I had recived my pie that i actually got it. Eventually I received it and went to the counter for the veg etc. We waited a further 7 minutes to be attended to to cut the meat for my partner and child. Then the guy serving reluctantly told me that virtually everything had butter in. He then asked if i wanted to have a plate of veg prepared without butter in. After confirming that i did. 10 minutes later I got a plate of veg. It was perfectly cooked I have to credit the kitchen with that. No bar staff, table service or any Communications took place after that from any front of house staff until we had to seek someone out to pay the bill. I think serious training is needed. I very nearly offered some consultation in hospitality but I probably would of been left waiting for even longer.

We had our wedding here on the 28.09 and it was absolutely perfect from the moment we booked to the day after our wedding day. The building is absolutely gorgeous and there were so many opportunities to capture some beautiful photographs. The function room is absolutely gorgeous and feels very private from the restaurant due to being upstairs with your own bar and toilets. The staff, particularly Becky and Michelle, were amazing during the lead up to the wedding and on the day, listening to our requests and making sure the day ran smoothly. It was a bonus that the room could be dressed the Friday before as we knew everything was ready prior to the day Finally, I want to say a huge thank you for the service and quality of the food + we had a three course wedding breakfast and an evening buffet. The. Wedding Carvery was gorgeous and all completely fresh and they catered with a 3 course vegan meal for a few members of the party and for someone who is coeliac - all her food was prepared and served separately to avoid any cross contamination. Thank you so much for making our day absolutely perfect ❤️

Took my elderly relative here today against my better judgement as he wanted to go. The rooms are dark and quite oppressive and he struggled to see me as we were put on a small table with him facing a large window. The staff asked what we wanted to drink before we had even sat down. We had the carvery which was only ok. The spoons for the veg under the heat lights were impossible to hold as they were too hot but the food not so hot. He left most of his and wanted to ask staff if it could be warmed up but no one around for over half an hour. No staff came to check if our meal was ok. An argument between a customer and staff going on in the background made the visit worse. I wish we had refused where they wanted us to sit as it contributed to the bad experience. We had dessert as still hungry but the ice cream was quite runny and melting …. Definitely definitely won’t be back also felt like we were in an old movie set. Not for us.

I have never ever wrote a review in my life because no place has ever been bad enough to make it worth my time, but this is a different story. The bad reviews already there don’t justify how bad it actually is, from the second we came the car park which had no lights to the service which was shocking, the waitress literally ran away from us when we hadn’t finished telling her our order, the food was dry, fatty and flavourless, i’ve never tasted anything so atrocious, we got the 2 toby tasters and they brought out garlic bread that should rather be used as a brick, so dry and no flavour and for the chicken poppers, 3 undercooked chicken balls. Never ever coming back The only good thing about this place is the salt they offer and the only thing worth ordering is the Prosecco. No wonder this place is so cheap!!!
