Ran across Turkis whilst driving up Blackbrun Road and noticed this striking looking restaurant front, and figured it was worth a shot - and the food lives up to the look of the place.
We rolled in, looking for takeout, and we were greeted by Attiya (hopefully we caught the name correctly), who was lovely an super helpful.
We asked Attiya for some recommendations, and she asked us how many people where we looking to get food for, which happened to be 4, at which point she directed us to the Platter for 4, which we ordered with rice (you also have the option of chips)
As well as the platter we ordered a Veg mousaka, and Attiya recommended we order chips since we already had rice.
Attiya directed us to a table, while we waited for our order. I've Name dropped Attiya several times here as a testament to her hospitality, service and recommendations, which were all 💯!
After a 15min wait or so, we left with two bags, both of which were heavy, a good indication of quantity.
When we got home and unwrapped everything, the platter was in two large square trays, which had rice, lamb chops, kebabs. Wings, tandoori chicken and shredded chicken. This was acommpanied with Naan and salad.
The mousaka was In a narrower rectangular tray, accompanied by chips 🍟 (the chips were standout).
All the food was fantastic, the Veg mousaka was tastey, next time we will order the lamb mousaka, which should be awesome if the Veg one is anything to go by.
With regards to the platter, again everything was cooked to perfection 👌 Given that 4 of us were eating (1 big eater, 3 moderate/lite eaters) we just about got through one of the platter trays! The next day we tackled the 2nd tray, where we still had a bunch of left over rice.
If you're considering visiting Turkis, highly recommend you take your appetite, as there's lot...
Read moreA little restaurant on Blackburn Road in Bolton, close to the Asda supermarket. There's a small free car park behind the restaurant. Whilst the service was very good, kind and responsive, if you're looking for an authentic Turkish eating experience, unfortunately, this is not it.
The food felt more Indian than Turkish. We had a range of starters and main platters. The falafel was poor and vastly overpriced for what it was. You should be able to pick up a falafel and eat it. This one disintegrated the minute you tried to pick it up. Not worth the £10.
The bread, lacked the Turkish touch. Turkish bread is usually very fluffy and topped off with sumac seasoning and finished off on a the grill. This was lacking all of those aspects. It may have been served hot, but that was the only positive. Plus it was £2 per portion. Most Turkish restaurants serve bread free of charge alongside a selection of cold mezze starters, especially given we spent well over £300 in total.
Moving on the the main meal platter, whilst the portion size was very generous, the rice served with the platter was basmati rice and not Turkish rice. It totally took away from the experience. The chicken shawarma was not diced up like shawarma should be and was more like strips of chicken. Very disappointing yet again given the cost.
Turkish tea was also charged for on the menu. Even Salt Bae offers Turkish tea on the house! Customary for most Turkish eateries.
Finally, I asked if they served lahmacun and was asked, "What's a lahmacun?" I think that pretty much sums up the missing authenticity of the experience.
I wish them well, but there is a lot to improve before it can replicate a good experience of...
Read moreSneaky lunch with my husband after I finished work early, and before the kids were home from school. I'd noticed Turkis when they were refurbing the unit and have intended to eat there for ages - so glad we got the chance today. Easy to park (behind the row of shops). We had the meze for two - sujuk (turkish sausage) was delicious, calamari was perfect, garlic mushroooms - sauce was amazing (we should've ordered more bread to mop this up with), Patlican (aubergine) - I wasn't too sure about this when I read it on the menu - but couldn't get enough - again delicious! And the humus - love this mass produced from supermarkets - but wow - humus from Turkis is just divine! We probably should have just had the meze for lunch - but the menu was just too delicious looking - so we had Sarma Lamb Beyti between the two of us as well - again wow! I've read a few other reviews, and some comment on the price, it's not a cheap place - but you get what you pay for - the food is fantastic, so you can't be expecting cheap and cheerful prices. Certainly worth the price, will definitely be going back, both to eat in when me and my husband can sneak out, and take away when we want to be lazy...
