Filthy! After looking at reviews on Google we decided on Egham on Toast, one thing I learnt is don't trust google reviews to be an accurate reflection of reality. Upon arrival the vacant tables were dirty & no one attempting to clean them, that is 1st strike!
We order food and tried to pay cash, told they have no change so unless I wanted to leave a generous tip I had to pay card. Not a strike but definitely annoying as had they told me that before ordering I would have gone elsewhere.
Was asked where I was sitting so I asked for a cloth to clean a table, I was handed a tissue paper napkin, seriously! 2nd strike! I declined obvs and asked for antibac and a cloth, the lady reluctantly offered to clean the table, my horror when she cleaned it with a blackened cloth, I mean zero basic hygiene standards at this cafe. STRIKE 3!
I change seats due to people smoking around me and yet another dirty table needed cleaned so as the antibac & filthy cloth was left unattended on a table near children I decided to use the antibac and took some paper tissues, the staff member came racing over and proceeded to attempt to wipe the table with the vulgar unhygienic cloth, so I said please use a clean one that is not fit for purpose! After she assessed the cloth to her credit she apologised and returned with a brand new cloth.
Food was served, well mine was but it had items I hadn't ordered, the other meal wasn't ready but why order & eat together when you can order together and eat separately 🤷♀️ must be a new fad I'm not privy to.
My food was inedible, the sausage looked like it had battled with Mike Tyson and lost, the egg looked ready to hatch a chick it was that raw and the mushroom ..... well I actually can't describe it but maybe you can imagine what it was like in a minute ... keep reading!
So the other breakfast arrived and it was absolutely swimming in syrup, is there a good dentist near by then again I wouldn't trust any of the reviewers from this cafe so if you are one of those please don't answer.
After fighting through an ocean of syrup a sink to wash hands was requested, "excuse me do you have a bathroom?" Keep that mushroom if your thoughts! "Yes just through here" replied the lady behind the counter.
Walking through to the edge of the kitchen and accidentally kicking something on the floor by the toilet almost sustaining an injury were ??? Yep a stack of mushrooms! Of course where else would you store mushrooms that you are going to cook and serve to customers! Right outside a toilet door next to the kitchen is the obvious safe and hygienic place. STRIKE 4!
So after not eating my breakfast, having to ask for tables to be cleaned in the bare minimum of hygiene standards way and not drinking a mug of scaled tea I was absolutely unimpressed with leaving with a light belly and a lighter purse.
Avoid if you have bare minimum hygiene standards, fill your bellies if you love Russian roulette. I won't return...
Read moreMy first and last time visiting this place. I like to support local businesses but you are better off visiting the harvester across from here as the food will be better and you’ll save money.
I went for brunch with my partner and thought this place had a nice look to it but that’s all there is here. We were initially sat at a table but moved to sit next to each other on the cushioned seats after ordering two full breakfasts, one with tea. As we went to sit on another table, the waitress came over to give me my tea which I’d ordered with oat milk but, didn’t hear this at the till. Not a problem, so I asked for some only to be brought the oat milk and the card machine because it was 30p for the milk, despite me spending over £20 for the meals. I was shocked to have been charged for that but again looked past this and payed.
Whilst sat at the table, the waitress then asked to clean the table and said we couldn’t sit next to each other as we were taking up another table joint to ours. Had the place been busy and all of the tables were full I would have understood this, but there were around 4 -5 free tables and I had asked the waitress if it was okay to sit here at the till and she said yes. Despite this we moved and the couple next to us made a comment to agree that it was strange the waitress came over to say that and said the place had gone down hill.
I saw the oat milk had already curdled prior to going in my tea and had expired yet I was charged for this. Our breakfasts arrived and although some bits were tasty, I was only disgusted to find a hair stuck in my bacon midway through.
I told the waitress and she said that she needs to check if the milk is in date but I told her that it has gone bad and she offered me a complimentary drink. I then told her about the hair in my food and said she is sorry and tried to continue explaining but at this point we were ready to leave and the rest of the meal was spoilt.
It’s a shame that the service and quality is of such low standard but after reading the other reviews on here I can see it’s a pattern. I would avoid this place as there’s little value for money and you certainly won’t get good customer service. You’ll also be made to feel like the villain for raising these things - the waitress should watch if customers are looking before complaining to another member of staff...

Owner operated brunch spot in Egham. It’s a great atmosphere with maybe room for maybe 20-22 covers.
We had 8 people in our party spanning four generations and there was something for everyone on the menu and everyone was so pleased with the food and service. We will come back and highly recommend.
How it works?
Amazing for walk-ins and find your seat , menus are on the wall and sauces and cutlery are set to the left hand side of the restaurant. Once you choose what you want go to the front and place your order. Remember your table number.
Get your cutlery and some ketchup, sit down and within 15 - 20 min you have all you need for a great brunch!
Food
The food is freshly made, a huge variety of brunch favorites. We would recommend the Pancakes, French Toast, Eggs Benedict and Chips. Food came out quick (especially for a party of eight!)
Service The team does not normally take reservations. I understand this, there is no guarantee that the folks will show up and a business like this needs to make their weeks earnings on Saturday and a Sunday. However, if you call up and have a large party you might be in good luck.
The team is proffesional and make you feel like you are at a friends house for brunch rather than a restaurant. The owner operators can be heard welcoming customers aka strangers into the establishment whether they are in the front of house or giving a helping hand in the back. Equally no one get leave without a warm goodbye.
During the ordering and serving process, everything is smooth and met with a smile. Something’s might not work out, for example out of our 8 person order, one item was not in stock and the owner (not the server serving us) came out, apologized and made a very good alternate recommendations.
Drinks Great choices. Coffee is nice and strong, kids loved their hot chocolates but the group favorite was bubble tea. All great options.
Tips Great location if you live in Egham. If you are visiting there is paid parking at Waitrose and Tesco parking is free on Sundays ;)
Overall value It’s rare to find good service these days and to couple that with fresh brunch favorites is very rare.
If you are looking for brunch in Egham area. Give this place a go!
It’s not easy running your own business so well done to owner operators at Egham On Toast. Keep it up, Well Done...
