The location is, formally a classic vintage public house, the feel and vibe being run on there own supply. The carpark to the rear however is compact and not much space especially when it serves food, does get busy so keep that in mind. The access to the property from the rear of the building has wheelchair access ramp but didn't see the front. Was greeted with warm vibes and friendly environment. Staff was helpful and made our stay one of most favourites on our travels. Got the keys and made our way up, one thing noticed, there isn't no clear indication on directions for room numbers. They're upto standard with byelaws, regulations making the customers safety there number one. Do love the smell of diffusers or such. The single room, was spacious to put everything down. Bed was comfortable with one pillow and a second in the cupboard as stated on the Information banner. One thing I also noticed, not short of plug sockets, noticed 3 doubles in total. Also supplied with small kettle and cup with options available for tea, coffee and hot chocolate. Aiming to help with making places like these be the best for future reference both for future customers to come and the owner property aswell. Things that see in most places are the layout of the building complex which could be accessible on doors for safety tips and standard emergency evacuations. The bathroom has towels which are greaty sized, including shower gels and soap with glass, just make yourself aware, the switches are on the bedroom side for bathroom light. Including the shower isolator. The Menu for the restaurant is basic and nothing over the top, keeping it simple an optional for all party members. Have gluten free and vegan meals. Also have a special board if not feeling anything on the menu But keep in mind on the time you visit for the restaurant could get busy from 6pm. At the same time I believe it's pet friendly as seen numerous dogs with owners. That being said, onwards, the table didn't feel big for 3 party members. layout felt crowded but its understandable as soon as the time approached for meals, area some what got busy, thats always a good thing. You know the food is going to be worth it. Lamb fell off of bone, food was piping hot. The fillet, requested medium rare and came out medium well. Although I was surprised it was certainly mouth watering. Top Marks to the chef. Staying for 2 nights, got the option for breakfast and the choice was fair and they're willing to be open for what you request if you don't want a full English. Meal might vary from previously Staying there but would certainly go back if the option occurred. Would suggest they could look at way to improve the tablet layout for party members during breakfast period but it's not essential. Still a pleasant place to stay and would gladly recommend this for both restaurant and staying over.

There are so many eateries in Garstang I was spoilt for choice, but I opted to have my lunch at the Royal Oak, and I certainly wasn't disappointed! This former coaching inn, dating from the 1600's, stands in the cobbled marketplace, behind the market cross. There's plenty of outdoor seating. It was market day and the pub was very busy, but the young man who greeted me and took my order was both welcoming and attentive, and I was served quickly. Besides the main bar and a couple of dining areas, there are smaller rooms and cosy nooks with wood panelling, brasses, comfy seating, and some lovely pictures and local scenes on the walls. Very friendly atmosphere, and dog friendly too. There's a good choice of draught and cask beers, but I had a nice rose wine with my meal. Large menu with a great selection of hearty cooked meals, grills, salads, sandwiches and lighter options, and there was also a specials board. Plenty for veggies too! Had the peppercorn chicken with mash and mixed veg. The chicken was really tender, the sauce was deliciously creamy, and the vegetables were just right, neither overcooked nor too hard. Generous portions. The jam sponge with custard that I had for afters was a real treat, and the latte was very good (and hot). Prices were so reasonable given the quality of the meal and hospitality. Would recommend this pub and would happily come again.

What an absolute gem with incredible chefs!!! The food here is delicious and great portions. It's my Mum's new place to go, so much so, she took us out for tea then lunch the following day!!! We’ve never done that before! Service is really friendly and attentive. Sometimes you have to wait a little while but the food just keeps coming and coming out of the kitchen. They obvs do everything properly and take pride in the service and quality. It wasn't a problem waiting for our desert order to be taken because we were all so full :-D The plaice was gorgeous but I wish I'd asked for the smaller portion! The lamb just fell off the bone and the veg were perfectly properly cooked not any of this daft al dente rubbish! Lots of mini profiteroles with ice cream we're to die for and my Mum loved the syrup sponge pudding and proper home-made custard. Totes recommend this place but choose the pub tables as the dining room is a little soulless and could do with a darker wall or some mirrors or panelling or something. It's just a bit plain. The pub is really cosy. Compliments to the chefs and the lovely servers. Great place and reasonable too!

There were 4 of us who decided to call into this pub for an evening meal . We hadn’t booked a reservation, but the waitress told us we could sit in the dining area . We sat down at our table , waited to be served . We then asked the passing waitress if we could order our food . She then told us “ you have to order YOUR food at the bar as we hadn’t booked our table in advance . We then ordered our food and drinks at the bar . Our food came out , and 1 of the meals was a burger ( not to difficult to make ) the bun had been microwaved to heat it up . But was very hard . The burger was rock hard . And inedible. So my brother didn’t eat it . After our meals we then had to go back to the bar to pay our bill . We then explained the the man behind the bar that 1 of the meals were not edible. He then asked where the uneaten meal was , my brother then had to go back into the dining area to retrieve his uneaten meal , and bring it to the bar for the barman to see . He then took it back into the kitchen to show the “ chef “ . The “ chef “ told him to tell us we had to pay for the meal , we said we were happy to pay for 3 of the meals but not the burger . He then asked why we hadn’t told them about the problem meal earlier. To which we said we couldn’t find anyone to tell . The waitress came over to tell us she was available in the dining room . We then asked to speak to the manager, whilst the Barman was on the phone to the manager, the waitress took the money for the burger out of the till , slammed it onto the bar and told us “ I can’t be arsed with all this “ Even though we hadn’t actually paid the bill yet . So I hasten to add to our review, that we will NEVER go back into...

Dissopinted with are meals, I have been going to Royal Oak for meals for many years and can say I have never been dissatisfied the food quality and portion size along with prices always been good. I had heard on the Garstang grapevine that the food had deteriorated since the new manager had taken over the running. I went with an open mind and thought I would be the judge of the food. |To start with a positive the staff both at the bar and meal server was very pleasant, I ordered fish and chips which I have had many times before my 2 friends went for scampi. My fish arrived which was 2 small battered fish squares which resembled something you would get from a cheap supermarket frozen section, on the plate was a small handful of chips I would say maybe 12-14 frozen and a small dish with a spoonful of mushy peas all for best part of £18 |I don’t mind paying £18 when the food is good but all I can say it was just ok on a par with what you would get at Weatherspoons for half the price inc a pint. |My friends scampi was ok nothing special but you cannot really mess scampi up but sorry again for the price nothing special on a par to Weatherspoons. |Pub was busy all tables full I feel it will be like myself people will visit once and not return which is shortsighted of the management for the sustainability of the business long term. |My recommendation would be send the chef back to training school loosen the purse strings and purchase quality products. Get the old chef back asap or you will not survive 12 months I’m afraid. |It will be a long time before I return I am afraid the gossip appears to be correct...
