Service was really poor when I visited on a very busy Saturday lunchtime when there was clearly far too few staff on duty. I sat outside at one of their picnic tables with my pint of ale. At one point, i went to the toilet and when I returned my glass, which had still contained about a third of a pint, was gone. A customer, who was sitting at the other side of my table, told me that the pot man had just taken it away. At the bar i ordered and paid for haddock and chips for lunch and was told it would take about an hour. When the food finally arrived there was no cutlery and when I asked for a knife and fork the girl said the cutlery was inside the pub. I said "Do I have to get it myself?" Despite being disabled and with my crutch clearly propped up next to me, she said, quite curtly, "I'm too busy." The place has an old fashioned charm about it that appealed to us, the original layout has been kept and not thankfully turned into a gastro-pub, it offers a small but varied pub style menu at what we think are reasonable prices. We had the Sunday special which consists of 2 roast dinners and 2 drinks for £25, as you should be able to see from the photo there was a lot on the plate and it was delicious. The staff seemed friendly and the atmosphere was quiet, there is music but played at a level where you can chat without shouting (which is a nice change). Overall we would recommend visiting and trying it out, we will definitely be...
Read moreCalled in today for lunch having, like many people I'm sure, driven past many times, thinking it looked like a big old fashioned pub,and not stopping. However, after reading some reviews from people who had been pleasantly surprised,we decided to give it a go, really glad we did! My sister had the steak pie, which was full of lovely steak and gravy,on an excellent light and crispy pastry, served with mash, gravy and peas, I had the Cumberland sausage(glutton I know!) 3 lovely sausages, with mash,I had the mustard mash option, good gravy and peas. Nice normal food, not faffed about with and artistic, just well cooked and presented and great value for money. The place itself was clean and welcoming, and the lady who served us was cheerful and friendly, all in all a great experience and one we shall be...
