I first visited this place a couple of years ago, the young lady at the counter was charmless. I felt as though I was inconveniencing her by being there. I decided never to go there again, but after hearing all this nonsense about supporting small business I decided to visit after a year and the location at the time was convenient. The service had improved, and their milk cakes are great. The low rating is due to a recent order we made.
We paid over £100 for a cake, 6 strawberry tarts and a balloon. We agreed to collect these at 12:30pm a few days later. We sent a message a day before on Instagram to find out the address as they were working from a unit, we didn’t receive a response. We then called on the day and sent a text message and still no response. Keep in mind they were posting on their Instagram stories. Surely responding to a customer is more important than posting Instagram stories. They finally responded to the Instagram message three hours later. No apologises, just the address. The irony is, this is the same business that says “MAKE SURE YOU COLLECT YOUR CAKE AT THE AGREED TIME AND NOT HOURS LATER!" I suppose it’s fine if they can be three hours late.
Once we got there, we called and the man who answered was confused as to why we were there. He finally realised, and the lady managed to find the cake but forgot to give the strawberry tarts. The balloon was put in a plastic bag which flew away as soon as we left. They mention on Instagram how they will present the cake to customers, and we will sign a waiver before we leave. However, this did not happen.
We checked the cake in the car and the happy birthday sign on top of the cake was broken. We went back in to mention this, and the lady said that my sister was holding the cake incorrectly and there was nothing she could do. If she was holding the cake incorrectly why not tell her how to hold the cake. I would expect this kind of service from a run of the mill cake shop, but the whole point of going to a bespoke cake shop is not only the product, but the service too.
Furthermore, not sure if they have started serving alcohol and they had one too many, but a couple of hours after we had collected the cake, we received a text message from them telling us the address and a screenshot of their bank details and a payment of £23? I’m sure Mustahida’s will give their robotic response to call them and discuss this issue with them, but when we did that on the day, we were told there was nothing they could do. As for the cake, the icing was very sweet and dry inside. The strawberry tarts were...
Read moreCame in & got a latte & pomegranate juice to start with and we’re going to get dessert too but halfway through drinking my juice, i felt something in my mouth which was clearly a finger nail (i am a nail biter so am very familiar with the texture of a nail). Took it out of my mouth for further inspection and it was clearly a nail. We were really enjoying the drinks so we quietly mentioned it to the server who told us to ‘tell them when you pay’ to which my husband asked if he could just tell them now so a lady came over and asked what was wrong. I told her that the drinks were really good and we didn’t want to be awkward but we found a nail in the drink. She immediately got defensive saying ‘it’s not a nail cos we all wear gloves’ to which i said okay it may not be a nail but it definitely feels like one and i shouldn’t really be finding anything in my drink. She then had an epiphany and said ‘i know what it is! it’s paper from the straw!’ which i said no can you just feel it first because it’s sharp on the ends and hard like a nail. Then, the lady who made our drink walked past and she said ‘look she’s wearing gloves so it can’t be a finger nail (the server walking past was NOT wearing gloves😂😂😂so not sure why she was gaslighting us). She then picked the nail up and struggled to break it in half in attempt to prove it’s not a nail😂 I then said to her that if it was paper it would be soggy and disintegrating, not dry and sharp and hard😂😂😂 she then THEATRICALLY threw the nail on the floor and said ‘oops it’s fallen on the floor’😂😂😂😂😂 this is what caused me to write this review as she clearly threw it on the floor so that I couldn’t take a picture and attach it to a review - didn’t work because that only put the idea into my head. I then told her that I wasn’t annoyed initially but now i am since you’ve lied and tried to convince me that that’s paper when you know it’s not😂 she had such a guilty and conniving face😂😂😂😂😂😂 she then barked ‘do you want another drink then’ to which i declined as i felt sick from the nail and the disgraceful customer service😂😂😂😂 she then walked off. all she had to say was ‘im so sorry about this i will replace your drink / not charge you for the drink’ but no, she just defended the nail😂 We then got up to pay and still no apology but in their defence they removed the £3.00 off the bill🤭😌😌 so i got to drink the nail for free rather than for £3.00!!! #yayyyy #slay...
Read more-In response to your response I am shocked that you think looks worth the price paid 🤣 that is a joke. It looks a mess, the state of the bows and the glitter over the text? You think that looks great? Not a professional finish at all. All it would’ve taken to resolve this was an official apology, I was told I would be contacted but never was. Also seems your staff need retraining because I was told the cake I purchased couldn’t be gift wrapped in the clear box and now you say it could have. Also seems like you struggle to accept constructive criticism, work on that also.
I’ve visited this cafe a few times for celebration cakes and generally appreciated the convenience, but my recent experiences have been disappointing.
During a previous visit for my sister's graduation cake, I specifically requested glitter, but the cake came without it. Initially, staff claimed it wasn’t requested, but this changed when they double-checked. I was told the manager would reach out, but I never received a call. To fix it, I waited 15 minutes while staff added silver glitter, which was not applied as I requested initially and ended up looking very messy—it covered the text, the bows and was all over the box. I felt let down but didn’t have time to wait as I was already late.
Despite that experience, I decided to return for a last-minute cake. I asked for gift wrapping and was quoted £2.50, which later changed to £3.50. I was fine with paying, but I expected more than just a ribbon around a regular box. When I asked if I had just paid £3.50 for a ribbon, I was told it was for the box and the ribbon. This was corrected to just the ribbon when I inquired if I would have received the box regardless. To me, gift wrapping should be more than just a ribbon—it should look special and thoughtful. I wouldn’t mind paying extra for a quality gift wrap service that feels more special. Ultimately, I decided to go without the ribbon and received a refund for gift wrapping.
When I asked if I could switch to a smaller cake for better wrapping, I was told it wasn’t possible because the message was already written. From my experience with other bakers, changing or removing a message isn’t usually very difficult, and I would have appreciated more flexibility.
I understand that things don’t always go smoothly, but I really felt let down on my...
