Nothing special........ 6 of us visited San Angelo this evening, 24th of March (2019). The staff were friendly and attentive but the young lad, although a hard working waiter, needed training. He took our plates away while we were still eating and he carried drinks to another table with the pint of beer pressed into his chest by his arm while his hands were full of drinking glasses and a bottle of wine/water, were there no trays available? My starter was a very small portion of fried squid, over priced at £8. Everyone else enjoyed their starters. The mains were superb. My Calzone was massive, full of flavour and bursting with filling, cheese, ham, mushroom, salami etc. The bill , with beers and wine came to £170. Every Italian restaurant that I have ever eaten at whether at home or abroad has always given a complementary drink at the end of the meal but not at San Angelo. Ok, but...
Read moreI was really excited to go to this Italian and was really let down. An older female member of staff with blonde hair was grumpy on arrival. Then it got even worse when I moved my chair to face my partner, as the same member of staff told me to sit back where it was originally placed as they had a larger party arriving and there wasn't room. There clearly was room as another member of staff kindly helped us move the table after she saw what was happening. The older woman was then shaking her head at us. When challenged by my partner if there was an issue, she said no very moodily. The other party arrived and one of them clearly had Covid (not that this was the restaurants fault) We went there ready to splash out on a lovely Italian romantic meal, but instead we had a main and left as soon as possible as we felt very unwelcomed. We will never be going...
Read moreLet's start with the good. The staff at San Angelo are pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. There's a good choice of dishes. The tables and chairs are good quality and cleanliness is excellent. The decor is pleasing For me, however, the meat balls starter and the ravioli main did not have a wow factor. They were both ok, but not amazing. And the dishes are not cheap either. However... The portion size is generous and the dishes were served piping hot. The dishes looked lovely when plated up. Clearly other reviewers have enjoyed San Angelo, so maybe it's my taste buds. For me, as I don't live that near to Baildon, I'll be going to Italian restaurants that are nearer to where I am, and that I prefer because of the taste of the dishes and the view out. Best wishes to San Angelo. Italian food...
