First time visiting Vanilla Rooms was on Eid day.
Ordered lamb chops for myself, a chai latte and a sticky toffee pudding.
First things first, it's unacceptable that a place that is as pricey as this does not accept card. Sure it's on Leeds Road, the infamous road for tax dodging through cash only but you wouldn't expect it at this calibre.
The service wasn't great. My friend ordered mashed potato with his meal as a side, didn't receive it and was told he didn't order it when there were 4 witnesses and the waiter who he gave it to.
We had to ask for cutlery as it was seemingly forgotten and the service in general was slow. It took maybe 10 minutes before being given the correct menu after being seated and another 10 minutes before our order was taken.
The lamb chops were good, but they should be if they're from Akbars like they are. The chai latte was decent with a nice touch of fragrant cinnamon but if you're looking for a hot drink on Leeds Road, head to King Coffee Co instead a little further up.
The pudding was... average. Custard was hot but the pudding portion was small compared to the amount of custard provided.
Also, the name Vanilla Rooms and the décor implies to me it's a dessert place. But to see filet mignon steak and penne pasta and burgers on the menu seems out of place.
A strong smell of masala fish while eating your dessert is not the best combination.
For the money I expect better, more focus and refinement. Vanilla Rooms excels in neither the food or the dessert because of this.
Instead of Vanilla Rooms try any of the other restaurants on Leeds Road for food and any other dessert place for desserts for a more focussed and...
Read moreWell I ws warned about this place but I like to be my own judge at times. Initially I ws thinking one star but have given 2 since the drinks were good. As for the food, well what do I say. I had already eaten my main meal but my sister wanted hers so she got the penne arrabiata prawn pasta and not only did they take long enough to give it, it ws cold and the plate was dirty. She asked for it to be reheated and it was but it wsnt spicey enough and it was very saucy. Not to mention the piece of chicken amongst it 😂. However I did order sweet potatoe fries which were fresh and hot but were only a handful lol. We ordered desserts which didn't take long but the new York cheesecake had toffee sauce over it and so did the ice cream, bizzare. My chocolate fondant cake was tiny which was fine because it ws drowned in milk n white chocolate which left it very very chocolatey. The cake alone was enough because it was meant to be a melt in the middle cake lol. Staff won't really comment much if you complain cuz I'm guessing they can't agree with you while working but the facial expressions gave away the fact that we weren't the only ones left disappointed. This is my first ever Google review of any restaurant/patisserie room but I felt it had to be done. Not much eye contact from staff so getting their attention was difficult enough and not much room to get by tables with a baby bump lolll. Waste of money....but hey, I can now say I've been to 'vanilla rooms' too lol. A few ppl who had travelled from further afield, sat near us, left disappointed too. Atleast I...
Read moreI’ve been a regular here for a long time and usually order the sliced chicken steak with homemade chips, but the experience and quality have really gone downhill.
The first time I visited this month, we waited over an hour for food. The second time, after a long wait, when my meal finally arrived, the chips were re-fried, rock hard, and completely inedible. The homemade chips are the main reason I go to this place. I told the manager (who must be new, because the managers here have always been polite and accommodating in the past). He did offer to replace, however I was put off my food, and instead of simply taking the chips off the bill (£16.50 for steak, mash, pasta, veg) I was told they were “part of the meal” and that I could either have more chips brought out or a complimentary dessert. I made it clear I didn’t want anything extra — I just wanted the inedible part of my meal taken off the bill. When I went to the till, he only deducted £1.50 and told me I should “see it from a business point of view.” How am I supposed to “see it from a business view” when I’ve paid for food I literally couldn’t eat? It felt like a joke.
Thankfully, one of the waiters noticed how little I ate and stepped in, calling over another manager who finally agreed to take another £5 off the bill. And whilst doing so, the manager seemed to have an attitude whilst slamming the tills to refund me. While I appreciated the waiter intervening, the whole situation has led me to believe the new management are honestly the reason why this place has gone down hill. Really...
