We checked in on Saturday afternoon took our cases upstairs and decided to have drinks back downstairs and unwind after a long drive.. After returning to our room to chill before getting ready to go out and meet friends our stay started to turn sour my wife decided to go for a shower first to find out that the door on shower couldn't open wide enough for either of us to get in!! Oh well not wanting to complain we both freshened ourselves up before heading back downstairs for a drink before our lift arrived.. Now I know that we are all living in strange times but having 6 people to serve 2 drinks was unbelievable (no social about the coffee saying that it tasted bitter and cold the cooked breakfast was OK but we've all tasted better.. So after a enjoyable day out we returned back to The White Hart for a night cap before going to bed still 6 people serving and it took ages to get our drinks by the time we had ordered my ice in my Whisky had melted and was warm!! (Absolutely Shocking)!!! Monday Morning bag's packed my Wife went in to order breakfast and put our bags in to the car to find out within that time nobody had asked what we wanted 10 minutes later had passed before we asked what we wanted 2 fruit juice and 2 egg benedict was our reply 5 minutes later our juice arrived ( I must add that the other 5 table's we either eating or add placed there orders whilst the 3 assistant managers were just talking in reseption) 10 minutes later still no food with this response we decided to checkout having already paid our bill on arrival..... Would we come here again Braintree yes this...
Read moreI visited the White Hart in Braintree with my family this afternoon and had a superb “English “ lunch.
Visiting my Uk family from the States I jumped at the opportunity to enjoy a lovely lunch at a quaint pub/hotel.
The menu was diverse with all the English favorites and there was Sausage and Mash for the two children with us — making then very happy! I had a delicious homemade made chicken & mushroom pie that was fantastic with delicious vegetables gravy and salad.
There was a slight hiccup after we ordered but the attentive staff solved the problem immediately and went out of their way by making amends sending some complimentary cheesy bread to hold us over in lieu of the mixup and delay.
During the course of our meal we were checked on not by only the manager but two or three other members of staff making sure everything was to our liking.
In the time of Covid this type of attention and customer care was a welcome relief to the usual click order and deliver type services many restaurants are now continuing to sadly provide. (Valero in Witham is one such place where you do everything yourself except cook your own food paying for the privilege)
Good work White Hart for maintaining high customer service standards that makes going out for a meal a real enjoyment. Yes the food is very important - but ambiance and service are just as important to a good experience.
Hopefully restaurants managers will follow a similar lead to the White Hart - staff up and bring back SERVICE with a capitol S. Date of...
Read moreI wrote a review 4 months ago, simply because the experience was excellent. How things can change, Tues 09/07/24, we had dinner in the bar, with my daughter, her partner and my nephew, my nephew was staying at the hotel. Three of us had breaded mushrooms, seriously overcooked, the so called garnish a 'sprig' of green stuff, not what I call a garnish. My daughter's partner and nephew had the belly pork which he enjoyed so much on his previous visit, this was a let down, presentation was poor, the veg part which I believe is peppers and onions was virtually none existent. My daughter and I had the 'Homemade Battered Cod' homemade it is not!! Our cod portions were identical, the fish was dry and the chips were overcooked. Whilst I accept they were a 'man' down two of the team on duty were management, perhaps some of the time spent vaping outside and sitting down conversing with a male would be better spent looking after the customers!! Added to that the gents toilet was out of action and apparently only half the kitchen was functional. Seriously Greene King if one your hotels reports an issue the get it fixed ASAP, not leave until your contractor can fit it in. My nephew is back this way in a couple of months, doubtless he will stay at the White Hart, but if we meet him for dinner it will be somewhere else. Yes we could have said something at the time, but quite simply our experience should not have happened, if food doesn't look right they you don't serve it, clearly something was...
