Wildwood — Restaurant in Braintree

We visited today for lunch and really wanted to sit outside. We went into the restaurant where we were greated by who I believe was a manger. We asked if we could sit outside and straight away she advised us that the service would be slow if we sat outside. Obviously we were a little confused by this as there were probably only about 6 tables in the restaurant being used and the outdoor area wasn't busy. There were adequate waiting staff to the amount of tables (I have worked in hospitality so am quite aware of what they are capable of). We were sat in the restaurant and never given the lunch menu, we had to get up and get it ourselves. The service in the restaurant was slow so we should have just sat outside. But then this was probably because the manager was too busy eating behind the bar! Other people came in and seen by other waitresses and happily sat outside. I just felt the service by this manager or supervisor was very poor and felt like it was an inconvenience us being there. Also when going to the toilet the stairwell area stank of cigarettes. We had to get up and pay the bill at the end as no one bothered coming over with the card machine. It's funny because they have a poster by the till area which advises the staff how to get mystery shopper points. I had a chance to read a few of them and they would have have scored 0 with...

Went here after a full day shopping on Monday 21st Sep 2020. Lots of tings put in place for social distancing in Freeport as a whole, and still managed to get everything I needed.

When it came to an early supper, I couldnt help myself when it came to Wildwood, I have been once before in New market and really liked it, so it was an obvious choice.

The bar staff were very friendly from the get go and we were seated in less than a minute. Access to restaurant was easy on foot and by wheelchair, car park across the road operates a 24 hour policy at no charge, maybe 2/3 min walk from Wildwood, with enough spaces for weekend shoppers and some extra.

variety on menu is broad, fish meat n veggie options. great starters, mains and of course desserts, with all the sides! We weren't drinking but lots of alcoholic and non alcoholic options to.

Our server was Emilia and she was great, very smiley, engaging, quick to respond and always present but not annoying (if that makes sense). Overall, cannot fault! Awesome service and meals! Hat off the chef!

Oh and finally, went for the over baked lasagne, chunky chips and mozzarella garlic bread.... yeah I know, all...

This is our second visit to Wildwood and I'm sure not the last. Conveniently located alongside the shops at this outlet we were seated promptly and service was spot on. Pricing is appropriate throughout the menu across food and drink. My meal was a buttermilk chicken burger and a side of fries, the chicken was deliciously moist and the bun nicely toasted, I was offered cheese and bacon but for me this is a burger that stands well on its own and this one certainly did. The side of fries were good, skin on , salted and rosemary seasoned and we shared these amongst us, Sparkling mineral water to drink. My Daughter had a margherita pizza which looked excellant- nice and thin , cooked well and she certainly finished the plate which is saying something as she does not have a large appetite and the portion size was generous. My wife had a light option spaghetti bolognaise with salad- opting for no dressing although this was offered. My wife has a very small appetite currently and did not finish the plate , but this is no reflection on her enjoyment of the meal and the restaurant.
