Wow where on earth do I start? Our experience at the Taj Mahal restaurant in Braintree was nothing short of a complete disgrace. It was hugely upsetting and I would not wish this on anyone. The worst food experience of our lives and this is written by a frequent budget traveller who has visited 45 countries to date.
This place should quite frankly be shut down with immediate effect.
The food was horrific. Tasteless, unecessarily full of sugar which was highly peculiar and caused food poisoning of several members of our group on the eve of a wedding. You know the food is bad when the staff point blank refuse to try it to verify our claims. They even tried to claim that’s how traditional Nepalese food tasted. A few of our group have been to Nepal. They were completely wrong. How on earth can a paneer tikka dish taste sweeter than a dessert.
The service was atrocious. We waited hours for our food and when it finally arrived, we wish it didn’t. Not only was the order incorrectly fulfilled, it took several people to notify multiple staff members to get the correct dishes. When this happened, staff responded rudely and without a care in the world for their customers. We still never got the correct dishes. We asked the same staff member 5 times for a glass of water and it took them 45 minutes for this to be fulfilled.
Some of our group left unfed. For this to happen to a restaurant in a civilised country is laughable. In hindsight they were the lucky ones!
The kitchen was a complete mess. It looked like the aftermath of a civil war. I don’t know how they have passed basic health and safety checks. And the food poisoning is not a surprise based on this observation.
You would think the manager would be self aware and provide some sort of discount for dishes unfulfilled but they were rude, refused to do this and one of the wait staff argued with one of our group publicly which was embarrassing! Basil Fawlty would be ashamed.
Some constructive feedback: if you can’t operate a restaurant without poisoning your customers and being rude towards them, close down because customer service is key in this industry Seriously consider a complete restructuring of staff members. From the head chef without taste buds to the waiting staff who couldnt fulfill...
Read moreMy wife and I are getting quite experienced at the differences in Indian Restaurant lately. This is a new Restaurant with the aim of being the "best" Indian in the area. The décor inside is really nice. The staff are really friendly and above all you are not restricted to the menu. I have not been getting the same rush from Vindaloos that I have had in the past and because I have vindaloo with lots of extra chilli's in at home I have been finding them very tame in restaurants. I happened to ask for my heat or more chilli's and the staff gave me a good explanation and said there are two levels above a Phall. I couldn't resist and they did me a Tinderloo which was about perfect for me. My wife who normally prefers a Korma tried something different one night and was so impressed she has been having it ever since. She also really loves the pickles that come with the papadums. One night the staff gave me a bonus dish that is a speciality of the chef and I loved the different tastes. There was some heat but not enough for me and they are quiet happy removing onions and turning up the heat for me. Also worth mentioning is the quality of their lamb. Lamb is my favourite meat but I have never really liked it in an Indian. The Lamb in my bonus dish tasted like Lamb and was really lender. I was extremely impressed. I have no fears about asking for something special and the staff seem to love trying to broaden my tastes based on my comments. They also do take away's and if you can't eat everything they are happy to box it up for you. I can't ask for anything more in a restaurant. It is a great addition to the town and well...
Read moreMy family and I went to try this establishment for a dine in experience. Unfortunately, the experience was not up to scratch. The food was subpar and watery, and the service or lack of left a sour taste (a better taste than the food, I must say). After waiting an age to get more drinks, we gave up and asked for the bill which was pricey but the real cherry on top was at the bottom of bill they added there own service charge...SERVICE CHARGE...What bloody service, we questioned this and said we wasn't going to pay the service charge, to which the waitress responded with "oh so you don't want to tip" I bit my tongue...what I wanted to say was "here's a tip...check your attitude and take more care of your customers...we are putting money in your till and thats your end goal"...its a shame we had this experience as it looks lovely but the service and food did not match up. The family and I are now in search of another...
