Not normally an IPA or craft been drinker until moving to Bristol where it seems to be literally everywhere. My first experience with Brewdog was serving Punk IPA at a bar I used to work in and it was an agreeable pint. So little by little I've started warming up to craft (will still be loyal to traditional ale though)
Now to the actual review! Walked past this rather cool bar a few times on my way to the OldFish Market and it's always sparked a curiosity. Finally went in and it was a pleasant atmosphere, very clean, the beer menu was well laid out with all the info you need to make a choice.
Went for something different (Elvis Juice) on the barman's recommendation which turned out to only be served in a 2/3 glass....which I found very odd especially for the price. But then it's quite a potent brew so it wasn't a big deal.
The outside seating was in the shade and comfortable making sipping away on my NotQuiteAPint most relaxing. The beer itself was like being punched in the face with citrus....but highly enjoyable, enjoyable enough to warrant a second.
In the evenings it seems to get pretty crowded so for me personally it's a bar I'd go to on my days off for a little light daytime drinking and relaxation rather than on an evening out. But that's just me...I like to relax when drinking flavoursome beer.
Great bar, great beer, just wish Elvis Juice...
Read moreWas told by the security guard at the door I was too drunk to come in even though this was the first place we were going to start our evening. Friends have all mentioned they enjoy BrewDog and I hadn’t been so we wanted to begin here.
I thought he was joking so I chuckled with a “yeah yeah” and went to go in through the front door and he persisted I was too drunk. I asked if he was serious and he said he was 100% not going to let me in, but said all my friends could come in but that I wouldn’t be allowed.
He said all of this with the biggest grin on his face, I was so confused as I hadn’t done anything that would indicate somebody who would be too intoxicated to enter a bar (no falling over, slurring words, having to hang on to somebody to keep my balance...) and again this was the first place we were starting the night. I have no idea what I did wrong that would make him turn just me away.
My friends were also confused and said to the security guard we’d literally just left the house, so there is no way that I’d be too drunk to do anything. It would have been legal for me to drive let’s put it that way.
Absolutely baffling.
I’ve been to BrewDog after this with no problems thankfully, and have enjoyed the atmosphere and it’s nice when it’s sunny to sit outside on the benches. Shame about the power hungry security guard on the...
Read moreThe Scottish 'Punk' brewers have a place in bristol.. and it is excellent. Brewdog hosts a very small bar which can get very busy with its excellent industrial decor with plenty of colour in contrast from the chalk all over the place!
They offer most of Brewdogs fairly large range in bottles or on draft (which changes regularly) Alongside their own particular brews they offer many beers from other small independent breweries really supporting their craft beer revolution.
The drinks are reasonably priced considering they are not super mass produced as you find in most bars and they also offer a range of beer cocktails....i can hear you thinking... "Those must be horrible.. right?"... well you would be wrong.. they are delicious, and i think this is down to the sheer quality of the beers used.
If you want quality, a friendly attitude and a VERY knowledgeable staff.. Brewdog is your place. They also offer tasters and a very small bar food menu (ploughmans type fare) with a crossover with grillstock on tuesdays.
Well worth a visit as one of my favourite...
