I love going to the Bristol Hippodrome however there are a few things that stop me from rating as a 5*. I have been to several shows at the Hippodrome; Wicked, Matilda The Musical, Michael McIntyre: Work in Progress, Cinderella with Torvil & Dean and many more. All of the shows / productions I’ve been to have been fabulous and the actors are incredible with amazing singing voices. I watched Matilda The Musical at the Hippodrome yesterday (22/05/2019) and we had amazing seats - we were front row in the middle in the Grand Cirle so had a great view of the stage. Although the seats were great in location they were far from that in terms of comfort. I love the Hippodrome but the seats are always just so uncomfortable and after about half an hour I can’t help but start to fidget due to back ache and being in an awkward position. There is literally no leg room at all, luckily I’m short so it’s not too bad but if you’re tall then it would be very uncomfortable. Another thing I would say is that it is very expensive - it’s expensive enough to go to the Hippodrome in terms of ticket prices but then everything else is expensive when you’re there. We had a drink in the bar yesterday and for 2x single gins (Tanqueray Sevilla) with one slimline tonic water spilt between both it was over £13. They do have a deal on where you can get 5X items from the list for £18 but this only includes 2 alcoholic drinks and they are only 330ml. Another issue my partner raised to me is that the gents toilets (Grand Circle) absolutely stank of urine - he went during the interval and said the smell was horrendous and almost made him sick. Overall I always have a good experience at the Hippodrome and enjoy going to productions/performances however I wouldn’t rate it 5* due to how uncomfortable the seating is - with a bit of a refurb it would probably be 5*.

If I could I wouldn't even give Bristol hippodrome a star. Bought standing upper circle tickets to watch six, surprise birthday gift for my 10 year old daughter. Was told that the view would be restricted, that was understandable as the ticket price was lower. If you are over 6ft tall you will have no problem seeing the stage, for shorter people like us you cannot see the stage at all!! Also you have to keep your backs to walls near the toilets theough the whole duration of the show, staff will constantly remind of that as it is due to health and safety. My daughter was left heartbroken that she didnt get to see the show. We were unable to see any of the show just listen to it. I Contacted Bristol hippodrome via email and provided photographic evidence, the person who I was in contact with was very dismissive about the matter and I found at time the person to be very unprofessional and full of excuses , I felt because I purchased the lower priced ticket ( as it was mentioned twice in the emails )Bristol hippodrome thought this situation was acceptable. Only writing this review as I don't want someone to be robbed of there money like I was. AVOID THE STANDING UPPER CIRCLE! Here is the photo of my view for the whole show.

Lovely theatre, it's well kept & a pretty looking old theatre. Staff were all friendly. Bags searched on arrival. We arrived an hour early to get to our seats, grab our drinks & use the toilet before getting seated which was plenty of time. We watched Wicked & had an amazing time & thought the show was fantastic. Our seats gave us a good enough view to see everything. To be able to afford a better seat & view is a dear do! We sat in the Stalls T16&17. You could pre order your drinks for the break which I thought was a great idea & saved you re-queuing for a half time refreshments. (Although there was a queue to collect them it was quicker than the bar & shorter as they were ready to go) Cons - Not enough toilets for the break, queues as always to the ladies toilet. Drinks were expensive!!! £10 a glass of wine is extortionate really & they have you under a wine barrel really don't they whilst your there if you want a refreshment! (And a tiny tub of vanilla ice-cream for my daughter was priced at £4.80 a tub) expensive for what it was. I understand a profit has to be made but really this much? Great night though. We would revisit for another great show :)

A Spectacular Evening at the Bristol Hippodrome:

From the moment we stepped into the grandeur of the Bristol Hippodrome, it was clear that we were in for an unforgettable experience. The historic charm of the theater, with its opulent décor and majestic architecture, set the stage for what would be an evening of pure enchantment.

Our excitement reached a crescendo as we settled into our plush seats, the anticipation in the air palpable as the lights dimmed and the curtain rose on the much-acclaimed production of Hamilton.

The cast delivered a performance that was nothing short of electrifying. Each actor brought their character to life with such passion and precision, it felt as though we were witnessing history in the making. The choreography was a whirlwind of energy and grace, perfectly synchronised to the powerful, genre-defying score that has taken the world by storm. The seamless blend of hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B, and Broadway left us in awe, our hearts racing with every beat.

What truly elevated the experience was the Hippodrome itself. The theater staff were exemplary, their warm smiles and helpful demeanor ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience from start to finish. The ambiance, a perfect blend of vintage elegance and modern comfort, created an atmosphere that was both grand and intimate.

Intermission provided an opportunity to explore the theater’s splendid interiors, with its intricate moldings and sparkling chandeliers that harken back to a bygone era of theatrical opulence. The refreshments were delightful, a testament to the theater’s commitment to providing a well-rounded, luxurious experience for its patrons.

As the final curtain fell and the cast took their well-deserved bows, the ovation was thunderous, a testament to the spellbinding performance we had just witnessed. Leaving the theater, there was a sense of having been part of something truly special, a night where the magic of live theater and the brilliance of Hamilton combined to create an indelible memory.

It was a great time with me and my father, sharing moments of awe and joy that we will cherish forever.

In conclusion, the Bristol Hippodrome proved to be the perfect venue for this phenomenal production. It’s not just a place to watch a show; it’s a portal to another world, where history, art, and emotion come alive in the most spectacular fashion. For anyone seeking an evening of unparalleled entertainment, the Bristol Hippodrome is an...

Yesterday I went to see Shen Yun at this theatre: the performance was very nice with an unexpected bit, dancers, musicians and presenters were great. The theatre looked great but we were sitting at the upper circle and there the stairs were very steep (3ppl almost fell before the performance) and the temperature was unbearably hot. I almost faint twice during the first part and manage to get out. first before the break to grab some water and have a seat in a fresher place outside. Staff definitely knew about this issue as just outside there was a table with cool water and glasses and a couple of seats. For the second half I bought a cold coke and used it to cool off the temperature during the performance and it worked but obviously I missed a few parts during the first half as I was unwell. A few ppl around my area weren't feeling well and kept using the brochure as a fan to go through it. I suggest putting a warning or a note when you buy seats in the upper circle suggesting ppl to bring water and lighter clothes as it can be very hot and to be careful about the steps. It should appear on the ticket at least. The dress code was elegant/smart for this performance as although almost ppl didn't follow it, we and others did and heels for some were a problem while walking there. Another thing was going out: we were asked to walk on the right, instead of the left, so after walking up we were sent to the corridor that led us down again and after a few ramps we were outside in a small road with traffic on the back of the theatre. We would prefer to go out from the other site so we could use toilets and may stop for a drink and snack in the bar area before to cool off before leaving and get ready to take the train back home. Shen Yun was very good but the site could be managed better as I was waiting to see them since I missed their performance in Italy about 2years ago and I was looking forward to it! It was my B-day present. Obviously the fact that I couldn't enjoy it as I wished due to the uncomfortable environment that made me unwell ruined in part...
